First excursion of the term - last beach day of the year!
And goodness, British Weather really came out on form for us today! It's been GLORIOUS 😍🤩🌞
We started our day in Weymouth, where most of us had a short tour of the sea front, promenade and harbour, and some of us stayed on the tour to climb up to the top of Nothe Fort for the views 😍 Some of our students had crab baps at the Stone Pier Cafe, others came to Bennett's with Shonie to try fish and chips and mushy peas (some of us did both! Shonie had battered black pudding, of course!) - while others explored the shops, and some took a boat trip around the coast! In Weymouth we learnt about the history of bathing machines and British modesty, D-Day soldiers and preparations along the harbour, and the history of Weymouth's breweries 🤩
After lunch, we moved on to Bournemouth. Here, many of us went straight down to the beach - it was much more peaceful than Weymouth during the Ironman tournament, and the sea was warmer! Some of us walked with Shonie to St. Peter's Church, to see Mary Shelley's grave (with her mother, father, and the heart of her husband, Percy Bysshe Shelley!) We heard stories about some of Mary's stranger behaviour when she was alive, before exploring the magnificently painted church then heading down to the beach ourselves via the Parks, including Pine Walk, learning about the town's relatively young history as a Victorian health resort town.
We'll visit Bath for Halloween - you can visit the Frankenstein Museum and even stand outside the house Mary finished writing her famous book in!
