Speech, language and communication needs do not always appear as one clear challenge.

They can show up when a pupil struggles to follow an instruction, explain what has happened, find the right words, join in with learning or communicate how they are feeling.

For school staff, these moments can be difficult to support consistently without specialist guidance.

In this carousel, we are highlighting 5 important things schools should know about speech, language and communication needs and why earlier, more confident support matters.

If you would like to explore this further, join Best Practice Network and Speech & Language Link for a live introduction to the new Speech & Language Support Practitioner Apprenticeship.

Tuesday 9 June 2026
4:30pm UK time

The webinar will explore who the programme is for, how it supports early intervention and how schools can build practical in-school expertise.

You will also hear from Sophie Mustoe-Playfair, Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at Speech & Language Link.

We had such a great time in Birmingham yesterday for Coaching in Education tutor day.

It was inspiring to hear the passion each tutor brings to the programme and the support they provide to learners throughout their journey.

The day included some engaging team coaching activities led by Andrew Thompson, exploring different coaching approaches, followed by a heartwarming feedback session highlighting just how valued and respected our tutors are.

Lots of important conversations, plenty of laughs and just a few doughnuts. A productive day all round!

Another myth, busted.

Myth 4: You have to master behaviour management before you train to teach.

You don't.

Managing classroom behaviour is one of the biggest worries for new teachers, but you won't be expected to have all the answers on day one.

When you train with us, you’ll have access to optional Thrive-informed training that helps you understand the “why” behind behaviour and create calm, safe classrooms where pupils feel ready to learn.

On top of that, you’ll get 1:1 support from a personal tutor and mentor, helping you reflect on real classroom experiences, develop practical strategies and grow in confidence throughout your training.

If you’re ready to start your teacher training this September, apply today before applications close: https://eu1.hubs.ly/H0vX7md0
