It’s a night of inspiring performances by our amazing singers, all in support of a great cause: Caring in Bristol’s Christmas Appeal to help those experiencing homelessness this holiday season.

If you haven’t had a private lesson with me before, come along for a one-off Taster Session at a reduced rate of £30.

I will give you tailored tools and practices to help you develop your voice in a way that brings you closer to your goals. Depending on where you’re at on your vocal and musical journey we can also apply those tools to songs or any material you want to work on.

I'm an IVA Instructor II certified singing teacher. But what is IVA? And what benefits does IVA bring to singers?

I joined IVA end of 2019 because I felt stuck as a singer and singing teacher. At that point I had already been out there studying, writing, performing, recording and teaching singing and music for quite a few years. But it was like I'd hit a wall. I wanted to be able to assess a voice properly, and how to address certain issues and tendencies. I wasn't able to help my students progress any further with their technique due to a lack of tools and understanding. And as a singer myself, I felt that a lack of advanced technique and training was standing in the way for me to express myself fully and freely.

Since then I've experienced a massive shift in all of that. Just a few months in the training, I could witness much quicker progress in my students' voices, as well as in my own vocal practice and ability.

Now, after five years of training as a voice teacher and singer with IVA, I feel confident, competent and love to work with singers of all levels, from beginners to advanced, from amateurs to professionals. And the journey continues, in a years time from now, I'll be tested for my Instructor III certificate!

But, now what is IVA?

IVA stands for Institute for Vocal Advancement. The institute was founded by 9 singing teachers who all share a passion for the development of the best methods for training teachers of singing.

With over 120+ years of combined experience training thousands of singers and singing teachers, they have developed a program that helps to understand how the voice works, how to diagnose voices, and fix problems in any voice.

The foundation of IVA is to teach vocal balance. As an IVA teacher I believe that this is the key to ensuring success in a singer’s voice. Vocal balance gives singers the ability to control their voices while singing any style of music. It allows them to sound free and natural. As an IVA teacher I think a singer should be able to access all dynamic levels in their voice without straining, cracking, or breaking.

And what are the benefits of vocal balance?

When you learn to sing with vocal balance, you'll develop naturally greater vocal strength, health, stamina, range, pitch accuracy and dynamics. You'll be singing with more ease and control, with a wider range of vocal textures and with confidence.
