Just a snapshot into life in the a day at Forest school… chilling up a tree, optional spider crafts and hunt to get involved in, impromptu kite making and found a beautiful birds nest on the ground. Incredibly looked as though it had been walked on many times but was still intact!

First week back! And what a week to explore blackberries. We picked, chopped and ate them with our pancakes… and we squished them to make fantastic blackberry tie dye creations on these sweet little bags. And an awesome den creation with its own garden. Love it.

As the summer holidays draw to a close, now is a good time to plan ahead to make the most of the beautiful Autumn season ahead. Join us every Friday morning in Henleaze for the Hideaway Forest School. You can book the term (£9 per session) or individual sessions (£10.50 per session). You can spect to feel part of a community, welcomed with circle and story time, a different seasonal theme each week, a snack cooked on the fire and a farewell circle with songs.

As the Summer holidays draw to a close, now is a good time to plan ahead to make the most of the beautiful Autumn season ahead. Join us every Friday morning in Henleaze for The Hideaway Forest School. You can book the term (£9 per session) or individual sessions (£10.50).

You can expect..

The site also has a mud kitchen, rope climbing, slide, swing, water play, nature library, soft toys, digging pit and music wall.

This term we will be..
- Enjoying the last of the blackberries with blackberry tie dye and crumble
- Focusing on our squirrel friends by making pinecone squirrels and going on a squirrel treasure hunt
- Celebrating Halloween with costumes, making slime, potions and reading room on the broom together

It’s been an emotional week as we say goodbye to some of our year 6 going into their new schools and some staff members....

It’s been an emotional week as we say goodbye to some of our year 6 going into their new schools and some staff members. The children have been with us for up to 3 years and it’s been incredible to watch them grow and change. We will really miss them. We’ve been so lucky to have such a wonderful staff team too, a truly dedicated, skilled and passionate bunch so a huge thanks goes out to all of them. The Hideaway will be having a little break now as we’re not running holiday clubs this year (back next year). Have a wonderful summer everyone - see you in September!

Keeping cool in this heatwave the only way we know how… lots of water play! Here we are having a boat race. This week is the last week of afterschool clubs and we’re going to be letting rip with a water fight. There will also be some sad goodbyes as we see off some children who have been with us for 3 years… emotional. Such an honour to have had this time with them.

The first pics are an incredible den the children put together with zero input from us. And that’s what’s so great about it - they came up with the idea, figured out how to move and utilize the materials and worked together to make it happen. The 3rd and 4th pic are from a fire-lighting activity we ran. I’m a big believer in child-led play but this is such a great activity as children have to be resilient to see it through and the huge sense of achievement when they get it, is great. But also that they know we trust them enough to take part in this risky activity and they rise to that challenge by acting very responsibly.

Not a lot of forest school happened last week so no pics to share other than this one of my dog keeping cool last week during an early morning walk before the heat really hit in the afternoon. Back to normal this week! I’m loving clouds and wind right now 😁

What a week… spent most of Monday figuring out whether I could put enough measures in place to keep everyone safe before deciding that I would cancel the afterschool clubs this week. If we had children or staff who were struggling, we would really struggle to get them somewhere cold to cool them down so I think it’s the right decision. It’s all new uncharted territory. Keep cool and safe everyone. Friday morning will go ahead as normal as the temperatures drop then.

Another day at the afterschool club. Some incredible mud kitchen recipes, making elder (type of tree) beads, a self organised wrestling pit, mud digging and a bank that’s been set up (for the last 3 weeks running!)
