Another fantastic Open Evening last night 🥰

We welcomed Year 9 students and their families from 17 different schools across Bristol and Bath. That might be a record!

Thank you so much to everyone who came and looked around for making it such a buzzy atmosphere and for all the kind words about our fabulous school. Everyone was so complimentary about our wonderful warm vibe, incredible knowledgeable teachers and amazing students who represented IKB so beautifully.

🌟 Year 10 Work Experience Week 🌟

This week our Year 10 students stepped out of the classroom and into the workplace for their second work experience week of the year.

We've had Bathroom Fitters, Builders Labourers, Carpenters, Classroom assistants, Early Years Support Practitioners, Electrician's mate, Fire and Security trainee, Information Officer, Labourers, Maintenance Technicians, Mechanics, MEICA Engineers, Physiotherapist, Plasterers, Plumber, Ponds Decommissioning Assistant, Quantity Surveyor, Salon Assistant, Ship Designers, Teaching Assistant, Trainee fitness instructor, Visitor Experience Host.

Throughout the week, IKB Academy staff visited students at their placements and were delighted by what they saw. Our students demonstrated professionalism, enthusiasm, resilience and a willingness to learn, earning praise from employers across a wide range of industries. It was fantastic to see them applying their skills in real-world environments, building confidence, exploring potential career paths and representing IKB so positively.

From 18 July to 6 September, kids can again hop on almost all local buses for free. No booking or bus pass required.

The scheme covers all school-age children from 5 to 15, including those in secondary school. And there's no need to travel with a fare-paying adult, perfect for older kids who want to travel independently or with friends.

Free bus travel for under-16s will continue to be available during the summer, Christmas and Easter school holidays until at least 2029, thanks to funding from the West of England Mayoral Combined Authority.

On Monday we welcomed 60 students from 11 different schools across the Bristol and Bath area to a transition day ahead of them joining us in Year 10 in September.

The students had maths, English and Science taster lessons and then an option lesson followed by a STEM challenge where students were in teams of four and had to design, engineer and construct a catapult to send a ping pong ball as far as possible.

Great fun was had by all.

Then at the end of the day, parents were invited into school to meet each other and staff and enjoy some tea and cakes.

Feedback from one parent "I just wanted to thank you and your staff for Monday. I have not seen (my son) so motivated and inspired after a day at school since he was at primary. Please pass on our feedback to your staff, as they clearly take pride and put a lot of effort into the roles at IKB".

How wonderful 😍 many thanks to all the staff involved in welcoming our next cohort, we're all looking forward to you joining us in September🥰

Following on from Oscar’s successful work experience last week at Race Car Consultants Ltd in Ipswich the team have offered Oscar an unmissable opportunity to be in the garage working with the full team at Donington race track this Wednesday to Sunday for a full race week.

That's the way to do it, Oscar! This is the exact reason why we run our work experience programme, for students to build relationships with their employer which can lead to further opportunities like this. Who knows where this will lead and what will come next for Oscar...

This week, Oscar has been doing his Year 12 work experience at Race Car Consultants Ltd in Ipswich.

He's had a busy week repairing, tracking and prepping several race cars for future race events across England.

Oscar has absolutely loved every minute of his placement and would like to say a huge thank you to the whole team for making it such an incredible experience 🥰
