Weโve been mentioned by North Somerset and the World of Stuff team for our activities around traditional tales! The children have especially enjoyed engaging with the Jack and the Beanstalk story and have actively been acting out the entire story!
Jack and the beanstalk:
Iโve used the story Pod to retell the story together with the children, which led to a whole month of traditional stories.
The children used the props to act out the story and particularly liked adding small world resources to it.
We used the magic beans to discuss growth and then planted our own seeds. We also measured different beanstalks and compared size and height!
The children, with adult support, created different story endings.
We also talked about Jackโs motherโs emotions.

This playdough not only smells delightful but also provides a wonderful sensory experience for children. Enjoy your pumpkin spice-scented playdough playtime! ๐๐๐
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup salt
2 tablespoons cream of tartar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 cup water
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
Orange food colouring (optional)
Small pumpkin-shaped or Halloween-themed cookie cutters (optional)
Instructions:
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium-sized saucepan, whisk together the flour, salt, and cream of tartar.
Add Wet Ingredients: Add the vegetable oil, water, pumpkin pie spice, and a few drops of orange food colouring (if desired) to the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture is well combined.
Cook Over Low Heat: Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring constantly. It will start out very sticky and gradually thicken. Continue to stir until the mixture forms a ball and pulls away from the sides of the saucepan. This usually takes about 3-5 minutes.
Cool and Knead: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the playdough to cool slightly. Once it's cool enough to handle, knead it on a clean surface until it becomes smooth and pliable.
Play: Your pumpkin spice playdough is ready to be used for creative play! You can use small pumpkin-shaped or Halloween-themed cookie cutters to make fun shapes. Store any unused playdough in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
