✨The importance of continuity and keeping going when you don’t know what’s round the corner….✨

👩‍🎓 🧑‍🎓 A message for my international students 🇦🇪

😊In unsettling times, it’s important that some things stay the same.

📔 When I schedule my classes every Sunday, send my lesson invites and host lessons at the same time each week, I try to promise not just a little bit of continuity for my tutees, but also a friendly face - someone that a student can offload to and who will hopefully answer some of their questions 🙋🏽🙋🏻‍♀️🙋‍♂️.

🌎 I might not be able to answer the ones about world peace but I will always listen and experience definitely shows that having a chat at the start of a lesson helps to allay fears, calm nerves and build confidence 💪🏽.

🖥️ In spite of Distance Learning being a thing again for my international students, (and let’s hope that it won’t last for too long), we’re going to carry on as we have been, and we WILL come out the other side - stronger and more resilient 🤩.

✨To all my students in the UAE and Middle East, I am thinking of you, I’m here for you and will support you in any way I can✨🇦🇪✨

✨There are just a few more days of holiday left but these last couple of weeks have been a much needed time to rest and re-charge - for everyone, especially after November’s revision, mocks, feedback and target setting!💫

✨I hope that you have all had a wonderful break with your families and I look forward to seeing all of my international and UK students again next week as we begin the final months of preparation before the GCSEs and A Level examinations!💫

✨Wishing everyone a very Happy New Year and a 2026 full of sparkle and success ✨💫

Results day can be the happiest of days. But there’s always a tinge of sadness too. It’s incredible of course when your students email and message you, full of excitement, to tell you how they got on and where they’re going to university - this is the BEST feeling and reminds you why you do what you do.

And I love what I do.

But it can be sad too, because it’s often the final message from students you’ve worked with all year, have got to know so well and this is the farewell before they head off to the next exciting stage of their lives.

So, to ALL of my wonderful Year 13 students and your parents, although I’ll miss you, thank you too for a great year. I am thrilled that you are happy with your results and I can’t wait to see what you do next.

If you think I might be able to help your child with their English A Level and GCSE course, please get in touch - I’d love to hear from you! ☺️

You’re half way through….Keep that momentum going! The end is in sight!

The end of May for a tutor and their students is a bit like that week between Christmas and New Year…all the excitement and anticipation of the first few exams is over and you’re just plodding along, revising for the next exam, (pausing for half term!) before the explosion of the second wave of exams in the first half of June! 📚 ☀️

After the good luck messages and the hope that the questions are good ‘uns, I always look forward to seeing my students once they’ve taken an exam we’ve prepared hard for. If they think it’s gone well, it’s lovely to witness the relief and smiles as they discuss how they approached the questions😅🥳.

But, if something hasn’t gone as expected…a strangely worded question which disrupted effective planning maybe, not having time to write a conclusion in an A level Lit essay or even running out of steam on the Unseen poetry question at the end of that long GCSE Lit Paper 2…..it’s part of my job to remind students what they HAVE done well 👏🏼…..

🎉 They will have answered MOST of the questions, they’ve ANALYSED the quotations they knew well, showing understanding of the set texts and ALWAYS, more has gone well than hasn’t!

✍️ And then we must move on…to the next one, ticking off in fat Sharpie pen the tests that are behind us. With English qualifications, there’s always another exam to earn you extra marks and improve on the previous performance so it’s ALWAYS worth giving it your best shot, until that Sharpie crosses off the final exam.

🤔 So, if you’re a parent supporting a student or a student - as we reach the half-way stage, reflect on what’s gone well and think about what you could improve in the final few exams. If you have questions, don’t keep quiet!

👩‍🏫 Ask a teacher at your school, attend that final revision session to pick up those last few hints and tips and nuggets of wisdom or even drop me a message. I’m happy to help🙂.

Most of all, have a bit of a break over May Half Term - you’ve earned it! 📚 😅

Happy Spring Break and Eid Mubarak to all of my students who are celebrating over the next few days! I hope that you all have a wonderful time with your families.

For those of you who are new followers - thank you, and welcome! I have taken the opportunity to come back to Dubai for a short visit, to meet some of my online students and to take a break from the screen for a little while 💻 ☀️.

It’s been wonderful to re-visit all of my favourite places from when I lived and taught in the UAE for four years. My absolute highlight was living right next to the Al Qudra desert, so I had to head straight back there for a sunset photoshoot! 🧡

Heading back to the UK soon for the last few weeks of exam preparation with my GCSE and A Level Literature students 🧑‍🎓👩‍🎓.

We’ll be planning lots of exam questions and applying all of that knowledge and Spring Break revision in our final sessions, crafting introductions (and conclusions!) that respond directly to the question and engage with the debate, before writing them up in timed conditions 🕰️.

It’s the best practice now! To my students, if you need any help or extra resources, you know where I am! If you’re new to my page and have any questions, please send me a DM and we can arrange a discovery call to discuss how I can help your child feel more confident with and succeed in English 🙂.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Busy November!

It’s definitely Mock preparation season and we’ve been ramping up the practice to get ready!

✍️ My GCSE students have been revising their characters and themes for Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet and tracking their character arcs across the play, selecting the best quotations to analyse and making mini essay plan revision cards with quotations and analysis that they can re-visit before the real thing in May 🎭.

📚 We’ve also been looking at a range of exam questions and effective approaches to these: when to have a short introduction and conclusion and the all-important timings ⏰ to remember.
📖 My international iGCSE students have been finishing their coursework and consolidating understanding of Of Mice and Men and the English Language Paper before practising exam questions and honing their technique.

🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏽In our Small Groups, we’ve been having amazing discussions, planning answers and practising analytical paragraphs that, all-importantly, answer the question!

✍️ My A Level Literature students are busy refining their essay style and structure, practising introductions that get to the heart of the debate in the question, look at both sides of the argument and ensure they arrive at, and have time to write, a conclusion!

It’s not always easy with time constraints but we’ve been reiterating the point that effective planning is everything!

📚 📆 BUT, as we move closer to December, it's so important to remember that there’s plenty of time to practise and Mocks are there for exactly this purpose! Give these exams your best shot but if something doesn’t go exactly to plan, learn from it and fix it the next time you practise that question!

🎄 There are three weeks until the holidays - let’s do this!

🤞For any GCSE and A Level teacher or tutor, the two Thursdays towards the end of August can be pretty stressful, when you wait to hear how your students have done in their exams!

✨It's hard to concentrate on anything, until the messages start coming through. Whether they've achieved A*, grade 7 or passed with a 4, hearing the excitement from students when they tell you how they did, and how happy and relieved they are after all the stress of exams, is just the BEST feeling😍🤩🥳.

✨Hearing from proud parents too - who are often just as relieved it's all over - reminds you what a great job you have. To have been able to have a little influence over a student's achievement and perhaps their future too is a real privilege.

✨Thank you to all my students and parents for allowing me to be a part of your journey this year! Wishing you all the very best with your next destination 🌏

It’s almost time for a well-deserved half-term break and what a busy Term 3 it’s been! Christmas seems a lifetime ago and Spring is just around the corner! 🌷 🌹

📚 This week, my students in the UK and Dubai have been busy preparing for Mock exams at GCSE and A level.

✍️ We’ve been practising exam questions in timed conditions.

📖 Working on incorporating more ambitious language choices in story writing, formal letter and article writing.

🤔 and testing our knowledge of characters and themes in set texts in order to create essay plans on revision cards.

🙋🏻‍♀️🙋🏽What we’ve also been doing is remembering that these are only mocks and it’s vital to keep things in perspective.

👍 Yes, they are important in teaching exam resilience and technique and giving you that real experience of being in the exam hall, but the most important thing is that you will learn valuable lessons from these tests and remember that there is still plenty of time to practise, hone your skills and improve before the real things in May and June!

🏖️ So, have a happy half-term and remember to take regular breaks to balance out that revision.

🍀 You’ve got this - good luck!
