What a great session at The Vench – Lockleaze Adventure Playground yesterday! 🙌🎧

The vibe was buzzing, and the young people really got stuck in, learning new DJ skills and having loads of fun. It was fantastic to see everyone getting involved!

Today I received my CWP (Low Intensity CBT) diploma.

I've got really mixed feelings about this one. It's probably the only qualification I've ever completed where I spent most of it thinking, "What am I doing here?" 😂

The course just felt incredibly robotic to me. Everything had to fit neatly into a national curriculum and a very prescribed way of thinking, and that's something I've spent years questioning, through both my own lived experience and my research. I've seen first-hand how approaches like this can leave people behind, particularly neurodiverse young people. I know CBT genuinely helps a lot of people, but I don't believe it's the answer for everyone, and that never really sat comfortably with me.

That said, I'm proud of myself for seeing it through. Completing something you don't fully believe in, while staying true to your own values, is a proper mission. There were plenty of moments I wanted to sack it off, but my stubborn streak won.

More importantly, this course has given me clarity. I'm stepping away from mental health social care and putting all my energy into my DJ workshops. I've seen first-hand the difference music can make, bringing people together, building confidence, easing anxiety and giving people something to genuinely look forward to. For me, that's where I've seen the biggest impact on people's wellbeing, and it's where my heart truly is.

As for graduation,I don't think I'll bother. It feels strange celebrating somewhere that I found quite traumatising at times. I'm more than happy to accept the certificate, but I don't really fancy going back for a cap and gown photo. Besides, my mum and Huwey have had they're sick of watching my graduate.

Who knows, maybe one day I'll end up doing a PhD in Jamaica or Zambia, exploring my roots, culture and identity. That feels like something I'd genuinely be passionate about. But for now, I'm done chasing qualifications.

I'm going to enjoy having my headspace back, stop living by assignment deadlines, spend more time with the people I love, and put all my energy into creating something I genuinely believe in.

I'm a proud tutor this morning.
Two terms ago, she wouldn’t go near a stage.

Last night, she stepped onto one at Bristol Beacon and delivered.

She received the Guild of Guardians Award for Musical Potential, recognising outstanding promise in music across the city.

Formal setting. Posh crowd. Three classically trained young musicians before her.

Then she stepped up and dropped a Hard Tek set.

Didn’t adjust it to fit the room.

And she smashed it.

When I started a few terms ago, performing felt out of reach ,confidence, anxiety, and a male-dominated space is all part of it. But ability was always there.

Now she’s doing live sets and backing herself properly.

What an amazing shift. What an amazing young lady.
