A cardboard box can become much more than a castle. 🏰

Building with cardboard gives children the chance to explore some of the foundations of engineering through play. They can plan a design, measure pieces, think about strength and stability, solve problems when something doesn’t work and make improvements along the way.

It’s also a brilliant opportunity to develop creativity, perseverance and confidence — especially when children can see their own ideas gradually taking shape.

Maths is everywhere in everyday life, but children do not always make the connection between the calculations they complete at school and the skills they will eventually use independently. One surprisingly useful way to bring maths into the real world is to teach your child how to read a bus timetable.

Learning how to read a bus timetable involves far more than simply finding a departure time. Children need to recognise numbers, understand the passage of time, calculate intervals, compare different options and solve practical problems. For older children and teenagers, these skills can also support independence, confidence and preparation for adulthood.

Making homemade ice lollies is a favourite family activity during the warmer months, but it is also a fantastic opportunity to explore science together. Every stage of the process, from mixing ingredients to watching them freeze and melt again, introduces children to scientific ideas in a way that feels natural and enjoyable. Rather than sitting at a desk reading about states of matter or temperature, children can experience these concepts first-hand in their own kitchen. ❄️

A huge congratulations to all of our students receiving their GCSE results today! 🏅

Last week we celebrated our A Level students, and today it’s all about GCSE Results Day. We’re so proud of every young person we’ve supported across both milestones.
Today is about so much more than the grades on a piece of paper. We’re celebrating the determination, progress, resilience and confidence our young people have shown throughout their individual learning journeys.

We’re especially proud of the SEND learners we support, for whom reaching this point can involve overcoming challenges that results alone cannot always capture. Every step forward deserves to be recognised.

Whatever your results and whatever comes next – further education, training, employment or a different pathway – everyone at Greenhouse Learning wishes you the very best. 🌱

For some young people, progress starts with finding a place where they feel safe enough to talk.

For D, that place is her local park. After experiencing overwhelming anxiety in school, even stepping through the school gates became too much. Here, surrounded by familiar paths, trees and open space, she has been able to build trust with her mentor, Pearl, one conversation at a time.

The bench where they chat, the café where they grab a drink, and the swings she enjoys have all become part of a journey towards greater confidence, resilience and hope.
Over time, D has begun opening up about her feelings, learning ways to manage anxiety, and feeling ready to take new steps. This September, she will begin academic tutoring alongside her mentoring – something that once felt impossible.

Progress doesn't always look like exam results or time spent in a classroom. Sometimes it's feeling safe enough to believe in yourself again.

Every young person deserves support that meets them where they are. 💚

Sometimes, the best classroom doesn't have four walls.

For some young people, learning begins when they finally feel safe.
This bench, in a familiar local park, has become a place for conversation, trust and gentle progress. For a young person experiencing severe anxiety, alongside autism and ADHD, being outdoors in a calm, familiar environment has made it possible to build a relationship before focusing on learning.

Every small step matters. A conversation. A shared walk. Five minutes of feeling comfortable enough to engage.

Relationship-led mentoring isn't about forcing learning. It's about creating the conditions where learning can happen again.

💚 Every child deserves an approach that meets them where they are.
