Goodbye beautiful Osvaldo!! Our gorgeous boy left us (peacefully at home) yesterday morning. He caused 17 years of daily joy and we are devastated to lose him. He was an extraordinary character, so loving, so wise, so strong. Even though he was diagnosed as diabetic at the age of 4 he lived a long and adventurous life.

Rest in peace my glorious friend.

My finished pedal board, the latest incarnation at least. I’ve gad the power supply, tuner and Blues Driver for years but the other 4 I bought over the last year. Lots of thinking about the sounds I want and tonnes of watching demos and reading reviews. Plus I’ve had to adapt my board, now I don’t generally identify as ‘practical’ but this seemed pretty straightforward and I’m very happy with the results. Time to make some big noises in public!!

On the 24th of February 2019 I performed a solo classical and flamenco show in the basement of The Falafel King in Bristol. I played all my favourite pieces that I had come across in the previous 20 years or so of guitar playing. On the flamenco side I performed a few pieces learnt from Juan Martin's 'Solos Flamencos' graded study books and the two filmed here opened the show. I began with the Malaguena Velez which is in toque libre (free time), a great way to set the atmosphere, and then went straight into La Cana.

I’m really looking forward to welcoming back all my guitar students over the next couple of weeks. I’ve been working hard myself since I last saw them all on my own playing and what I do with and I’m determined to make 2025 a very enjoyable year full of progress and expression. Gig announcements soon…

Something’s telling me to play the telecaster today! 🤣

I’ve decided to relearn some fabulous guitar music that I haven’t played since the pandemic hit a few years back, starting with this amazing triplet of classical guitar pieces by Agustin Barrios Mangore. I’ll share some footage when I’ve got them up and running again.

I often get asked about good practice routines and this is a way I’ve often broken down my practice sessions. 1) Exercises, so picking patterns, scales, general technique. 2) Repertoire, play as much of your current repertoire as time allows, as if performing, and make mental notes of what to work in later. 3) Time to work on new songs/pieces. The percentage breakdown is flexible of course but this gives a you rough idea of weighting. Happy practicing!! 🎸😃❤️
