Ed recently reflected on his experience training on BRAVA's Stage 3 Characters programme and shared just how much there is to discover in character work. 🎭
He spoke about the many elements that bring a character to life — vocal quality, physicality, hopes, fears, personality traits, and captured both the challenge and the excitement of building believable, distinctive characters.

🎙️ HIGH NOTES has been featured in Forbes, and we couldn't be prouder.
In a world obsessed with video, Forbes contributor Frank Racioppi has made a compelling case for the enduring power of audio, and HIGH NOTES is right there in the conversation alongside some of the most respected researchers in podcasting.
The data is remarkable. The 22% of podcast listeners who choose audio are younger, more educated, higher-earning, and fiercely loyal. But it's this line from audio researcher Tom Webster that says it all:
💬 "Attention fades when the screen turns off. Connection does not."
We've written a full piece on the BRAVA blog unpacking the research and what it means for anyone who communicates for a living:

Things beginners don’t realise about VO.
- Your confidence often grows through repetition, not inspiration.
- Many people dislike hearing their own voice at first.
- If you try to compare yourself to others, this can stop experimentation before it even begins.
- Improvement is usually gradual and hard to notice day to day, but you’ll see the difference after coaching or training.
- Vulnerability is part of performance.
It’s not about sounding like an announcer or reading perfectly. And it’s definitely not about simply buying a good mic.
It’s about learning to follow your instincts, staying curious, and keeping at it even when things feel unfamiliar.
One simple practice: read aloud for five minutes each day. This daily habit not only builds your confidence but lets you hear your own progress as you go.
At the start, most people don’t arrive sounding “ready”. They grow into it through practise, feedback, listening, and experience. Feedback can come from many places: online communities, peer groups, or voice classes and voice coaches; all of which can help you feel supported and less alone.
And often, the shifts that matter most are the ones you only notice when you look back.
Josh recently reflected on his experience training with BRAVA and shared just how positive the journey has been for him. 🎙️
He described working with BRAVA as “an absolute dream” and said the sessions became “the highlight” of his week. Josh also spoke about the energy of the group, the people he met along the way, and how helpful it was having everything clearly laid out so he could take what worked for him and build it into his own toolkit.
“It’s been tremendous.”

Today, Sir David Attenborough turns 100! 🎂
For anyone who works in voiceover, he isn't just a national treasure but a masterclass in the craft.
Warm, authoritative with those signature dramatic pauses, it's a craft built over a lifetime, and unlike anything else in broadcasting.
Our founder has written a piece on the blog today celebrating his centenary, looking at what makes his narration so distinctive and asking who the next generation of natural history voices might be(Spoiler: there's no single successor).

What do voice over agents actually listen for to make someone stand out?
It’s not just a “nice voice”.
In season one of our podcast, High Notes, we spoke with talent agent, Natalie Edwards and a few things became very clear - acting comes first, decisions are made quickly, and reading words isn’t the same as understanding them.
It’s a more grounded picture of the industry than you might expect.
We’ve shared a short piece with the key takeaways.

Proper day☀️🎧🎭
In March, the BRAVA team did what it does best: turned on the sunshine and dialled up the energy, and we spent the day doing something we absolutely love: getting deep into the world of .
Our ‘Audiobooks from a Publisher’s Perspective’ Masterclass brought together an incredible group of actors for a full day of industry insight, studio work, honest conversations and a lot of book recommendations. Led by Dan Jones (former Head of Carmelite Studios at Hachette UK) and our founder Melissa Thom, the group explored exactly what publishers are looking for from narrators right now: how casting decisions are made, what makes someone truly bookable, and how to perform with confidence in a professional studio environment.
