My name is Eloise and I am the teacher and principal of Heartbeat School of Drama. I've been involved in the performing arts for as long as I can remember: I grew up IN a dance school (Heartbeat School of Dancing) and a record label (Heartbeat Productions), I participated in pretty much any show I could get myself into (allowing me to perform at such local venues at The Old Vic, The Hippodrome and

The Bristol Beacon), took subjects at college exclusivelv related to the performing arts and eventually set off to New York City to train at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts from 2009-2012. I had a whirlwind 7 years in New York, working with numerous playwrights in developing new works, participating in 24-hour theatre festivals, independent film, studying Improvisation at the Upright Citizens Brigade, and even a cheeky stint Off-Broadway. Coming back to the UK, I realised that the full-time actor life was not actually for me, and after years of wondering what to do with all the time I had dedicated to something I love so much, the prospect of teaching and opening my own school finally clicked. On the 7th March 2022, I opened the doors to Heartbeat School of Drama and I wouldn't dream on looking back! My favourite thing about acting is being able to dissect not only a script but the minds of the characters; it's an incredible opportunity to learn about the many ways in which people work and creates a strong foundation for an empathetic nature. I want to use what I've learned, and what I love about it, to engage children to be fully connected, not only with others, but also with themselves. I am a big believer in therapy and self-reflection, and I think drama is an excellent tool to finding peace with your individuality. I am also very proudly neurodivergent, and work hard to make drama as neurodiverse-friendly as possible. While many would assume that it already is, there are a lot of aspects that just don't align (which I think is why I couldn't find my footing as a working actor!), so it is my mission to break down those blocks and create a unique environment where all creative minds can thrive. Our recent productions include self-made adaptations of Michael Rosen stories, from Bilal's Brilliant Bee, Barking for Bagels, Quick Let's Get Out of Here! All productions are treated as collaborative piece; I tailor every script to each student, and allow every student to have their own input on their dialogue, characterisation and staging. I set big challenges in a gentle environment and couldn't be prouder of what my students have achieved. Sound good to you? Here is the full timetable:

5:15-6:15 - Year 6-7
6:15-7:15 - Age 9-11

Tuesdays:
6:15-7:15 - Year 3-5

Wednesdays:
6:15-7:15 - Year 8-10

Fridays:
4:45-5:45 - Reception-Year 2
5:45-6:45 - Year 3-4

💜🩷❤️🧡💛 4 Years of HSD! 💛🧡❤️🩷💜

I feel like I’ve blinked and suddenly we’re here— and being the reflective soul that I am, my mind has been racing with all the fond memories we’ve forged in the last 4 years. I am super proud of every student who has walked through our doors over the years, and of the ones currently in our regular classes working so hard towards their next show.

This job is such a dream, so much fun, and so rewarding.

Onto the next 4 and beyond!

Each day will carry a spooky theme for the spooky season, and features our new Writers Group, now open to new starters!

Please see the dates below, which includes our Senior date—but please note this time it is for enrolled students only. (If you visit us on Halloween, you may see why!)

*For this session, the Seniors are invited to stay on for the evening and participate in our annual tradition of being the best and scariest house in the area for trick-or-treaters! They’ll spend the day time devising characters and performances, and the evening putting their work to the test! (this second part of the day is optional!)

Introducing a new monthly session that we’ll be starting in September!

Because we are all about creating original works at Heartbeat School of Drama, it only made sense to isolate that side of our creativity and give students the chance to focus in on the writing side of drama!

Just this summer, each class performed a play that was devised, developed, and written between myself and the students, both past and present. From plays about witches in Cornwall, a therapy session for monsters, a classroom drama inspired by The Breakfast Club or a high-camp Hollywood Mockumentary, each class poured themselves into their plays and it was truly the most unique experience for everyone! One thing we will never do at Heartbeat is what everyone else is doing.

So, in these sessions, both students and new faces can get stuck in with an afternoon of devising new work, building on pre-existing work, or be set challenges by me to see what comes out of it!

Our first session will be on Saturday 20th September, with sign-ups opening very soon 👀

Here is our full timetable for the new school year, with classes starting on Monday 8th September!

We currently have spaces in the following groups:
Tuesdays - 1 space
Wednesday 6:15 - 5 spaces
Friday 2:45 - 1 space

All other classes remain full!

We have a time slot for our new Wednesday juniors class! Spaces are filling up quickly, so get in touch asap to secure your spot and help us guarantee as early a start date as possible!

Our new school year begins on Monday 8th September, and with it will come some new classes!

We are currently registering early interest for a new Junior group on Wednesday evenings - times and start date will be announced soon!
This class may be a great alternative option for those who have been on our waitlist for a long time 💜

We are also starting our first (and long awaited!) home-school group! This will take place on Fridays from 2:45-3:45 and you can sign up for a trial session now!

Spaces in both classes will be limited, as our waitlists are long and we like our classes small (8-10 maximum), so don’t hang about— get in touch!

Our first week of summer sessions was so much fun! We welcomed lots of new faces and introduced them to all the silliness that we have to offer, all the while boosting their confidence and sparking their creativity.

One personal highlight has to be overhearing two students talking about how they’ll set up a stage when they get home and start writing a new script— that’s what this is all about!

Our Pre-Teen group for the Summer Holiday Group tends to be our smaller, gentler group as we approach the more intimidating sides of drama in a relaxed and supportive environment- because we don’t believe in “can’t”, only “can’t YET”.
