Neil is the Director of Training at The Wyvern Institute and a UKCP-registered psychotherapist and clinical supervisor, specialising in work with children and young people.

Alongside overseeing training at the Institute, he delivers the Foundation Course in Transactional Analysis and has many years of experience in private practice. He is also a former Director of Help! Counselling and has worked extensively in both primary and secondary school settings.

Neil has a particular interest in psychotherapy with neurodivergent clients, and his work in this area has received recognition in the UK national press. His recent article on neurodiversity and ego state theory, published in the Transactional Analysis Journal, has also been widely praised within the field.

An integrative transactional analyst, Neil draws on the principles of spiritual TA in both his teaching and clinical work. He also delivers training internationally and is fluent in Russian, contributing to the development of TA education in Russian speaking countries.

Outside of work, Neil maintains a regular yoga practice, which informs his reflective and holistic approach to therapy, supervision, and training.

Our final TA101 workshop of 2026 will take place on Saturday 10th & Sunday 11th October, with places now filling steadily.

Join Neil Keenan, Director of Training at The Wyvern Institute, at Goldney House Wellness Centre & Business Space in Chipping Sodbury for this two day introduction to Transactional Analysis.

The TA101 is ideal for anyone interested in personal development, communication and relationships, or considering future training as a counsellor or psychotherapist. No previous experience is needed.

Over the weekend, we’ll explore key TA concepts including ego states, communication patterns, unconscious early decisions, and emotional intimacy, combining theory with reflection and practical learning.

The TA101 is an internationally recognised introduction to Transactional Analysis and is required for entry onto our Foundation Course.

As this is our final TA101 before the 2027 training year begins, it will be the last opportunity to complete it with The Wyvern Institute before then.

Neil recently attended Physis Scotland’s RTE “All Together Day” in Edinburgh in his role as External Examiner for UKATA Registered Training Establishments.

The event welcomed over 60 participants and featured presentations on power, diversity, and equality, alongside discussions on contemporary TA practice. It was a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues and support shared standards in training.

Neil enjoyed contributing to the wider TA training community in Scotland.

Physis Scotland offers Transactional Analysis training in Scotland, with enrolment now open for courses starting this September. More information is available via their website.

It was wonderful to welcome Sarah Loveridge of back to The Wyvern, where she gave our Foundation Course students an experience of the impact that working with the body can have. Sarah is a teacher of The Alexander Technique, which the students learned to combine with their understanding of transactional analysis and how psychological conditioning can become fixed in the body. Thank you, Sarah, for a fantastic weekend and beautiful musical ending!

Developing TA Training Across Central Asia

International interest in Transactional Analysis continues to grow, and The Wyvern Institute is pleased to be developing its connections within the Russian-speaking TA community.

Neil, our Director of Training, is registered with TADO, the Transactional Analysis Development Organisation in Kazakhstan, an organisation that is expanding rapidly and supporting the development of TA training and practice across the region. Neil remains actively involved in this growing international community and regularly delivers teaching and workshops in the Russian language.

Today, Neil facilitated an online Russian-language workshop through TADO, continuing the Institute’s commitment to making high-quality TA training accessible to a wider international audience.

Alongside this work, we are currently collaborating with local Russian-speaking colleagues with the intention of launching our Foundation and Advanced Courses in Transactional Analysis online in the Russian language from October this year. This marks an exciting new stage in the international development of the Institute’s training programmes and reflects the increasing demand for accessible TA education across different cultures and communities.

At the end of last month, the Wyvern Institute team attended the EATA examinations and UKATA National Conference in Nottingham. This proved to be a valuable week of learning, connection, and celebration within the Transactional Analysis community.

We had the privilege of serving as examiners at the EATA exams and celebrating alongside newly qualified CTAs and TSTAs. It's always inspiring to witness the dedication and achievement of candidates.

At the UKATA Conference, Neil delivered a workshop exploring how culture shapes worldview and professional practice, while John Paradise facilitated a thought-provoking session on the impact of po*******hy in the modern world.

We returned feeling inspired by the depth, reflection, and important conversations taking place across the TA field.

TA202 is the next step after TA101 (or for anyone with a solid grounding in TA) and is designed to take things a level deeper, moving beyond the basics into the “why we do what we do” behind the theory, and how it shows up in real life.

It’s a practical, thought-provoking workshop that helps you make stronger sense of behaviour, communication, and the patterns we all get into in relationships... both at work and at home.

Across the two days, we’ll explore topics including:
👉 Symbiosis – recognising and shifting unhelpful “stuck together” relationship dynamics
👉 Impasse Theory – why we get stuck (and stay stuck) in certain patterns, and how to move through them
👉 Transference – how past relationships quietly shape present-day reactions
👉 TA and Neurodiversity – understanding different ways of thinking, processing, and experiencing the world

Expect space for reflection, self-awareness, and plenty of practical application you can take away and actually use.

Whether you’re continuing your TA journey or just curious to understand yourself and others more clearly, TA202 offers a really valuable step forward in how you relate, communicate, and navigate everyday life.
