Autumn Term Dyslexia Assessments Now Available
If you have concerns about your child’s reading, spelling, writing, or confidence with literacy, the autumn term is an ideal time to arrange a full diagnostic dyslexia assessment. As schools settle into the new academic year, teachers begin identifying learning needs and gathering evidence for access arrangements — making early autumn a perfect window for clear, timely support.
I am a Specialist Level 7 assessor holding a current APC (Assessment Practising Certificate). An APC is a professional qualification awarded by the British Dyslexia Association. It confirms that an assessor meets national standards for carrying out full diagnostic assessments and is kept up to date through regular training and professional development.
I offer full diagnostic assessments in a calm, child friendly environment. Each assessment includes a detailed cognitive and literacy profile, clear recommendations, and a strengths based explanation to help your child understand their learning. Reports are suitable for school support planning and, where appropriate, exam access arrangements.
October appointments are now available. If you would like to book or ask any questions, please feel free to get in touch via messenger or my website.

“Thank you so much for sending through the diagnostic decision.
I really appreciate the time, care and thought you put into the assessment, and I also wanted to thank you for making my child feel so relaxed and comfortable throughout the process. That made a real difference, and I am very grateful.
I have now forwarded the diagnostic decision on to the local authority so that it can be added to their file and considered as part of the ongoing EHCP, education and placement planning.
Thank you again for your support.”
It’s always incredibly rewarding to receive feedback like this. Knowing that a child feels relaxed, understood and supported throughout their assessment means everything to me. If you’re considering a dyslexia screening or full diagnostic assessment for your child, you’re very welcome to message me or contact me via my website.

Working Memory Tip for Young Dyslexic Learners

Does your child forget instructions easily or lose track of what they’re meant to do next? That’s often a working‑memory thing — and small tweaks can make a big difference.

Try the “Say–Do–Check” strategy:

Say: Give one short instruction at a time (e.g., “Find your reading book”).

Do: Let your child complete that step before adding the next.

Check: Celebrate success and repeat the sequence so it becomes familiar.

Little routines like this reduce overload and help children feel more confident and in control.

If you’re wondering whether your child might benefit from dyslexia screening (ages 6–8) or a full diagnostic assessment, you can find clear information and booking details on my website:

If you’re looking into a dyslexia assessment, make sure your assessor has a current APC. This BDA‑awarded certificate confirms they are fully qualified to carry out diagnostic assessments to the highest standard.

I’m also accredited with AMBDA, which recognises specialist training in teaching and supporting learners with dyslexia.

Both accreditations are awarded by the British Dyslexia Association, giving families confidence that assessments are thorough, accurate, and professionally recognised.

A‑B‑D Strategy for Supporting Dyslexic Readers
A – Adjust the Environment
Small tweaks make a big difference. Reduce visual clutter, use a bookmark or reading window, and choose dyslexia‑friendly fonts or coloured backgrounds to ease visual load.

B – Break It Down
Chunk reading into short, manageable steps. Try “read one sentence → pause → check understanding.” Little-and-often beats long, tiring sessions every time.

D – Do It Together
Shared reading builds confidence. Echo reading, paired reading, or taking turns helps children hear fluent reading before trying it themselves — and keeps the experience positive.

Echo Reading Strategy
You read a sentence, then your child echoes it back.
It removes the pressure of “getting stuck” and lets them hear fluent reading before trying it themselves. This simple routine builds confidence, rhythm and a lovely sense of success.
