We aspire for students to thrive academically; flourish and grow as young people.

Inspired by Learning:
We aspire to create a learning community where staff and students are engaged, challenged and inspired, and thus will take risks, make mistakes and learn from them. We endeavour to develop a sense of wonder in our learning, so that we are inquisitive, critical and curious. We will achieve this by providing moments of awe and wonder both inside and outside the classroom. Nurtu

✨ Our Transition Team has been out and about this week, visiting students in their primary schools!

Year 6 pupils have had the chance to explore our school uniform, find out more about the school day, and take a look at a typical timetable. It’s been fantastic to see so many positive and thoughtful conversations taking place.

We are really looking forward to welcoming our new Year 6 cohort to John Cabot Academy for their taster day on 1st July – we can’t wait to see you all! 👏🎉

New Starters!

Last week, we loved meeting the new students joining us in September! They explored subjects, sports and clubs, tried on uniform, tasted canteen food, learned about SEND support, and enjoyed a musical performance from our talented students.

They also met Head of School, Mrs Read, and discovered more about life at JCA.
We look forward to seeing everyone again for Transition Day in July!

We are very lucky to work with Unique Voice CIC and see the incredible work that they do.

Their Safer Together film is a powerful piece created with young people, for young people and aims to open up honest, informed conversations at home and in the community.

To join the online session on the 21st May, contact Unique Voice for the details.

A question we often get asked is - what does our ‘Safer Together’ programme look like in practice?

For us, it’s about creating space.
✨ Space for young people to talk honestly.
✨ Space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
✨ Space to feel heard, not judged.

Our Safer Together work was developed alongside schools, safeguarding partners and police, with that in mind.

It uses creative, trauma-informed approaches to support young people to:
💜 Make sense of their emotions
💜 Explore the reasons behind choices
💜 Build safer ways to cope and communicate
💜 Feel more confident turning to trusted adults
💜 Safely report crime and anti-social behaviour anonymously

We also recognise that these conversations don’t stop at the school gate. That’s why Safer Together includes support for parents and carers too - helping them feel more confident opening calm, supportive conversations at home, especially when young people may be feeling uncertain, influenced, or exposed to things online.

Because creating safety around young people means supporting the adults around them as well.

It’s not about having all the answers. It’s about creating the conditions for better conversations.

🚶‍♀️ Walk to School Week: 18th–22nd May 🚲

Our Active Travel Ambassadors have launched next week’s Walk to School Week! We’re encouraging students to travel actively—walk, cycle, scoot, or use the park & stride from Lidl.

It’s great for health, wellbeing, and the environment!

There’s also a competition—log your journeys with your tutor for a chance to win a canteen fast pass!

Students from JCA will be attending South Gloucestershire Schools Athletics for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, which will take place on Wednesday 20th May at Yate Outdoor Sports Complex.

It is a big event, with schools from all over South Gloucestershire attending. We aim to have a fun day where we support each other as a team and hope to see some exciting individual successes. Last year we had some significant wins both on the track and the field which was great to see.
