SI units feature in this month's Physics World magazine from the Institute of Physics.
The image shows the 7 base units, from which all the other units can be defined, however, the article explains how these base units don't tell the whole story, which is very "quirky" and ultimately human.

Lithium-ion batteries have more power per kg than sodium-ion batteries, and can be recharged more times. Worldwide there are 8 billion lithium-ion batteries just powering our mobile phones, plus millions of laptops and electric vehicles.
So how can sodium batteries save the world?
The main draw-back to sodium-ion batteries is their lower power to weight ratio, but this is being improved at an impressive rate, as the technology is being pushed in China.
Applications where weight is less important are of particular interest. For example, storing renewable energy from solar or wind, to use when it is dark and the wind does not blow. This could be a game-changer for world-wide power, releasing the whole world from dependence on fossil fuels and the horrible consequences of war over oil and climate change.

What is the difference between Dark Matter and Dark Energy?
This is something lots of students are not clear on, and many think Dark Matter and Dark Energy are the same thing!
Dark Matter and Dark Energy are fundamentally different! They have opposite effects - so if you are someone who is not sure about them, read on...
Dark stuff of both sorts makes up (it is estimated) about 96% of the universe. So less than 5% of everything is visible to us. That includes everything on Earth including your family and everything you love, all the chocolate in existance as well as all the stars and planets you have ever seen.
Dark Matter is just exactly what it says. It is matter which does not interact with light (electromagnetic waves) and so cannot be seen (in any wavelength). This includes all uncharged particles and Dark Matter is probably mostly neutrinos.
Dark Matter behaves like visible matter, in that it has mass-energy and feels gravity and so Dark Matter is pulling on all the visible and invisible mass-energy in the universe.
Dark Energy, on the other hand is the name we give to the exotic stuff which causes the universe to expand. Whatever Dark Energy is, it is pushing/repelling the stuff-of-the-universe apart and causing the universe to accelerate away from us (everything) and expand. So Dark Energy (repelling) behaves exactly opposite to Dark Matter (which is attracting mass-energy together).

A few fun facts about gases...
Kinetic energy of a gas molecule = ½ m c² = (3/2) k T
The c in this equation is the š®šš²šæš®š“š² speed of the molecule.
This graph shows that the less massive He atoms have a higher average speed for the given temperature (room temperature here).
It also shows that the spread of different speeds is much greater for the He atoms.
It also shows that the argon atoms (with a mass close to oxygen and nitrogen molecules) has an average speed of about 400 m/s!
So you are constantly being bombarded by microscopic missiles traveling faster than the speed of sound (approx 330 m/s)!!!
