Futura Sixth

It feels like such a long time ago we were able to take students on trips that enriched them by just having fun!!! So this Christmas we went that extra mile to get as many Year 12 Sixth Form students together for a bit of fun and laughter.

Ice skating always breaks the Ice (forgive the pun) in terms of team building and getting to know other year 12 students from across our collaboration of schools, we were fortunate enough to be able to take 150+ students from Wellsway School, IKB Academy and SBL Academy to the newly opened Bristol Ice Skating Rink at Cribbs Causeway (Planet-ICE) on the last Wednesday of this term.

The afternoon was enjoyed by students and staff, as you can see from the photos!. The students often ask the staff if they will be skating? This is a big decision for a staff member, a fall on the ice in front of students could live with them for the rest of their careers, so if a staff member choses to skate, their decision has not been taken lightly. To that…. Mrs Amada Turner ventured onto the Ice to represent the staff body and was like an Olympic figure skater! Mr Wilkinson, Mr Littleboy and other staff members decided that a potential fall might be too much of a risk. However; seeing the students in action and how much holding onto the side was taking place, I don’t think any staff had anything to be concerned about.

Let’s hope the COVID pandemic stays in control and we can continue to enrich and build that cultural capital with our students

Today we visited Oxford University , Exeter College. The students had a fantastic day learning how to make their applications to Oxford University.

We welcomed Bedminster Down students to experience a day as a Sixth Form student at Wellsway School & IKB Academy. Part of Futura Sixth.

Three sessions at the SBL Academy Post-16 open evening, supporting Futura Sixth, saw over 200 people come through the door. We are growing and making a difference to young people’s lives.

Wellsway School hosted their Sixth Form open evening last night, which was hugely successful. Promoting Futura Sixth as our collaborative Sixth Form with SBL Academy and IKB Academy.

Tonight is the Sixth Form open evening at Wellsway School, starting at 6pm. Come along and join us, see what we have to offer.

Travel disruption meant that we arrived at the wrong ground initially! Thankfully by sheer good luck we were then able to pinch a lift off another school in their minibus around the corner to the correct venue. Upon arriving we had limited time to warm up before kick off and looking at the playing surface and feeling the wind, we knew it could be an interesting first 15 minutes. Sure enough, we started sluggish and within the first 5 minutes had conceded a poor tap in goal. However, it was the wake up call we needed and from then on we took the game to BCCS. Oli Adams quickly equalised after some brilliant improvisation on the floor from Kevin Zyberi. A second soon followed from Kevin and from then on we were in cruise control. 2-1 at halftime could have easily been 4 or 5. With the pitch worsening we adopted a new approach, overloading the midfield and pressing the ball much higher. This proved an effective switch as after the first 20 mins of the second half we had added another 2 goals, courtesy of a cool finish from Alex Garland and a rocket into the top corner for Kevin's second. A fifth was added by Joel Arthur with 5 minutes to go to seal the deal.

Not a vintage performance by any means BUT, we'll absolutely take it. Onto Round 3 at Home vs. either a Stroud or Gloucester City team.
