Calling all students! DID YOU KNOW that as part of the University of Sussex community, you have free access to LinkedIn Learning? If you joined us this October, you should now have received a LinkedIn Learning Activation email - all it takes is one click to start exploring! π²
LinkedIn Learning is a great resource to support your studies, offering a plethora of courses to help you develop both hard & soft skills. Want to learn Python alongside your degree? Or get some tips on how to nail a job interview? LinkedIn Learning has just the thing. π
Whether you've just started your Uni career or are nearing the end, with LinkedIn Learning you can start building your online CV & get noticed by employers. You can even learn on the go using the LinkedIn Learning app - we recommend Blinkist for their short, audio-only summaries of popular self-help books! π
You can learn more about LinkedIn Learning at Sussex by checking out the link in our bio π. As usual, if you have any issues, we suggest raising a ticket through our self service portal (also linked in bio π), & one of our friendly ITS team will be able to help. π»
Happy Learning!

Today marks the second Amazon Prime Day event of 2023 & we know how tempting those deals can be, especially when you're looking for that perfect piece to make your halls feel like home! π‘
But DID YOU KNOW that phishing attempts dramatically increase around Prime Day each year? In June 2023 alone, Amazon Prime related phishing attempts increased 16-fold from May 2023!
More than 90% of cyber incidents are a result of phishing attempts, so we urge you to exercise caution to keep your details safe. Most phishing attempts are made via email & you can find our top 5 email safety tips below:
1. Checking the sender address & details on an email. Phishers often use fake domains to appear as though they're emailing from a legitimate company. Pay attention to the details here - any mis-spelling or irregularity could be a clue that all is not as it seems! π¨
2. Don't click that link! If itβs possible for you to go straight to the site through your search engine, rather than click on the link, then you should do so. π
3. Be wary of emails that urge you to take immediate action - fear tactics are often adopted to get you to divulge your details. For example, if you receive a suspicious email telling you your account has been compromised with a link to resolve it, don't click! If you're worried there is a legitimate risk to your account, you can change your password direct from your browser or app instead. π²
4. If you don't trust the site you're on 100%, you shouldn't be inputting any personal information or downloading anything. If you have to input information, make sure to check the company/organisation is genuine, & find out if the site is secure by checking that the URL has a closed padlock icon next to it. π
5. Finally, make sure you're updating your passwords regularly! It's possible that your accounts may have been compromised without you knowing, so changing passwords adds an extra layer of protection by locking out any potential scammers. π
If you've clicked a suspicious link or are worried that your account has been compromised, contact the IT Service Desk team ASAP at [email protected].
Stay safe & just keep swimming! π

Well that's another Welcome Week been & gone... Doesn't time fly?! βοΈ
It's been great meeting & helping so many of you over the past few weeks - we hope all the pieces are falling into place & you're all getting settled into your new homes, whether on campus or off! π‘
As of Monday 9th October, we'll be going back to our Business As Usual service (that's BAU, for those in the know), but don't worry - we're still on hand to help with all your IT questions!
Our friendly Service Desk team will be providing in-person support at the Shawcross counter between 09:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00 each weekday, as we have done throughout Welcome Week - the only change here is that we'll have fewer staff on the desk to help you, so you may need to wait a little longer to be seen at busy times. π»
At 17:00 this afternoon (Friday 6th Oct), our live chat will be switched off for another year & we'll be reverting back to tickets only within our Self Service Portal. If you have an issue that you can't get in-person support with, the best thing to do is raise a ticket with us (link in bio π). When you raise a ticket, you'll get an email with a ticket number for reference, as well as follow up email updates on the status & resolution of your problem. Remember, you need to use your Sussex login to sign into the portal! π²
But that's enough from us for a Friday afternoon - we hope you all have a great weekend & we'll see you again on Monday! π
29/09/2023
... And that's a wrap on Welcome Week round one! π
It's been great to meet everyone who's dropped by the Service Desk or joined our online chat since arriving - we hope you're all settling in well & enjoying life at Sussex!
We're now officially Out of Office for the weekend to give our lovely team a well deserved break, but we'll be back bright & early on Monday morning to help with all your IT questions!
If you need a hand, we're offering drop-in face to face support from the Shawcross Service Desk between 09:00-17:00 as well as a satellite Service Desk in the Student Centre between 10:00-16:00 Monday to Friday.
If Freshers has hit you hard & the idea of getting out of bed is a bit much, we've got you covered with our online chat, which is open between 09:00-17:00 Mon to Fri. You can access the chat via the self service portal in our link in bio π (please note, you will need your Sussex SSO log in details to access this!)
In the meantime, we hope you all have a fantastic weekend settling into your new home π‘ See you on Monday!

A warm Sussex welcome to all of our new and returning students! It's lovely to see you all returning to campus after a quiet summer! π
We know that arriving to Uni for the first time can be a stressful experience, so we're here to help in any way we can - even if it's just getting you online ASAP so you can break the ice and set the vibes with your favourite Spotify playlists at Freshers! π΅
Our team will be providing in-person support every day at the Shawcross Service Desk from Thursday 21st to Friday 29th September, taking a little weekend break before picking up again throughout the week of 2nd October. Opening hours for the Shawcross Service Desk are 09:00-17:00 on weekdays, and 10:00-18:00 over the weekend. Please note that we will only be providing weekend coverage on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September, to cover the initial arrivals period!
We'll also be offering a satellite Service Desk in the Student Centre from Monday to Friday during the weeks of 25th September and 2nd October, which will be open from 11:00-16:00 each day.
If you can't make it down to Shawcross, don't worry! We've got lots of useful info available in our link in bio, including a link to an online chat being manned by our friendly ITS team (no robots here!) The opening hours for the online chat are the same as those for the Shawcross Service Desk.
We'll be posting more information throughout the next few weeks, so make sure you're following us to stay up to date! βΉοΈ

π‘ SERVICE UPDATE π‘
Flood clean up is underway and we're now able to provide a limited counter service for equipment drop off and collection on an appointment only basis! π
To make your appointment, please call the Service Desk team on 01273 678090 between 09:00-13:00 or 14:00-17:00. π
Please note that all other support requests should continue to be raised via our self-service portal (link in bio π), or by emailing the team at [email protected].
We remain unable to support drop-in counter services for now, but will provide an update as soon as this service is reinstated. Please watch this space for further updates!

The IT Service Desk user area remains closed today while our Estates & Facilities colleagues address yesterday's flood! π©βπ§
We're aware that users need to be able to visit us to collect and drop off equipment, so we're working on providing an alternative drop off/collection point as quickly as possible. Once we have identified a space and set it up for use, we'll put the word out on all channels! π¨
If you need anything else from the Service Desk team, please raise a ticket through either the online portal (link in bio π) or email at [email protected].
Thank you all for your patience during this time, and apologies again for the inconvenience.
