It’s been a very hot week this week at Kipling Lions, we have done lots of water play, enjoyed some ice lolly’s to cool down and even had a visit from the Fire Brigade. The children were able to look around the Fire engine, have a go at spraying the hoses and then cooled down running under the spray of the water.

This week we have been excitedly waiting for the warmer weather. We have been talking about how we can stay safe in the sunshine and remembering how we kept cool last summer with lots of yummy ice pops and water play.
Ahead of the upcoming sunshine we’d just like to remind you to enjoy the weather and stay safe. We can’t wait to see our year round children next week and enjoy the sunshine together

Fun and feathers at Kipling Lions this week.
We continued our group project of making two giant chick. The children have been busy practicing their fine motor skills by sticking feathers onto sticks to give our chicks their fluffy coats.
The children explored different scents and textures by mixing coconut milk with water and adding fresh lemons in the tuff tray.
We explored bubble painting by mixing washing-up liquid and paint, there were lots of giggles as the children wanted to see how big they could make their bubbles before printing them onto paper

This Week we have…
We’ve had special visit from Nina from Balance Kids Yoga. We have started planting in the garden such as potatoes, mint and sunflowers as well as spending lots of time in the sunny garden. The children also created their own volcano.
Next week we’ll have a visit from Our Amazing Animals.
Have a lovely weekend

This week Dan from SportsCool came to visit.
Dan introduced himself and led us through an imaginative movement session. We pretended cones were trees, weaving around them, then took big steps across “quicksand.” We froze on command, swam past “crocodiles,” swung like monkeys, and crept like silent lions before roaring loudly. Dan praised our listening skills throughout.
Afterward, we played games running to coloured cones and hoops, raced to collect them, and finished by taking turns kicking or throwing a ball to knock down cones and passing it to teammates.

🎶 A Musical Afternoon with Little Lambs! 🐑
We had a blast today as the wonderful Lisa from Little Lambs visited for a session of rhythm and giggles!
Our little musicians stayed busy:
• Instrument Play: Mastering "Shake and Stop" and high-speed versions of favourite songs.
• Finger Play: Transforming hands into everything from tiny worms to giant dinosaurs! 🦖
• Parachute Fun: Exploring the "wind" while singing Zoom, Zoom, Zoom and playing with colourful pom poms.
A huge thank you to Lisa for such an energetic afternoon—our hands are tired, but our hearts are full! ❤️

🌿 Garden Games & Scented Adventures! 🌿
It’s been a sensory explosion and a high-energy week for us! We’ve been busy exploring, planting, and even breaking some records. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:
👃 The Great Scent Test
Our noses got a real workout this week! We explored a variety of fresh herbs, including pineapple and apple mint, purple sage, parsley, and coriander. The Verdict: The mints were a massive hit! Let’s just say chives aren’t winning any "favourite perfume" awards in this group! 🧅🚫

🏃♂️ Tag, You’re It!
We’ve been having a blast with a new Velcro tag game, tearing around the garden at full speed after our friends! To catch our breath, we slowed things down with a game of our own invention: “Hide the Lemon.” It’s been the perfect way to enjoy the fresh air.

🌱 Future Farmers
We’ve officially started our indoor garden! We planted basil and cress seeds and are now on "sprout watch." Fingers crossed for some green shoots soon! 🤞

💧 Math & Monsters
Who knew math could be so splashy?
The Coin Dropper Challenge: We practiced our counting and precision by seeing how many water droplets a 1p coin could hold before the surface tension broke. The reigning champion managed a shocking 59 drops!
It’s been a week of fresh air, big laughs, and very steady hands! 🍃✨

The wonderful Laura from Sounds Alive dropped by for a high-energy phonics session that had us singing, dancing and mastering our letters.
Laura kicked things off by focusing on our favourite sounds—our names! We practiced a Say it, Clap it, Sing it song to find the rhythm in our identities.
Our musicians took control of the stick instruments, experimenting with tempo and dynamics. We practiced playing fast, slow, loud and soft, proving that phonics is just as much about listening as it is about speaking.
Laura’s magic rhyming hat was a huge hit! We sharpened our ears by matching up some tricky pairs:
Bear/Chair🪑
Frog/Dog 🐶
Snake/Cake🍰
Carrot/Parrot 🦜
The Jumping Phonics Frog helped us leap into literacy! The children did a fantastic job sounding out and blending their letters to read the words JET and ZIP. High-fives all around for our budding readers!
We had a quick wiggle-break with a pom-pom dance and then we met the infamous Sammy Sock. He helped us explore two new sounds:
W: We practiced our ghostly woooo sounds. 👻
Y: We sang "What’s in the Bag?" and discovered a yellow world of yogurt, yo-yos, and even a yacht (though we’re still waiting for the real one to be delivered to the playground!).
We finished the session with a classic rendition of “See You Later, Alligator,". leaving us all with big smiles and plenty of new sounds to practice at home.
A huge thank you to Laura and Sounds Alive for such a rhythmic, educational session! 🐊✨
