nyone here, this can be difficult. In a traditional language school you will get the opportunity to speak English in class, but not often enough and mostly with other students. With My English Friends, it is like visiting an old friend and ‘hanging out’ with them for a week (or two). My English Friends offers an alternative, customised and exclusive experience: when you visit us, you stay with your teacher, a highly experienced, mature professional. You speak only English all day, every day. You receive three hours of private tuition each day, tailored to your individual needs. Lessons could be looking at specific grammar, focussing on listening, writing and reading. And you will be learning all the time, not just during these one-to-one sessions; you’ll be practising speaking and listening, even thinking in English. The rest of the day will be devoted to visiting places of interest: museums, galleries and so on, in and around the local area, including London; you will be discussing subjects of interest which is incredibly important for building vocabulary and improving fluency. Your teacher will correct you so that you can get rid of those bad habits! You will also meet our friends and this in turn helps your listening and fluency skills as you are hearing a variety of British people with different accents. You will get to know how the English really are and how they live. When you stay with one of our host teachers, you are completely part of the family, so when we meet our friends, go to the cinema, go for a walk, have a drink in a pub, you will join us. Of course you will also have the chance to do the things you want to do: perhaps you enjoy the theatre, or swimming, or just relaxing and watching TV (in English, of course!) – that’s also fine; we want above all to make sure you really enjoy your visit and make the most of every opportunity while you are here. My English Friends is a group of teachers who have all lived abroad and speak at least one other language, so we know what it’s like to be ‘out of our comfort zone’ and away from everything familiar. We all have a high level of education and a wide range of interests, so you will be able to practice speaking on a variety of topics. Our objective is to make you feel completely at home and relaxed, so that you are totally immersed in the English language and way of life without feeling stressed. It is also important to learn to understand fast, colloquial English in different situations, which can
