Calling all budding young musicians...Philharmonic Friends Youth Orchestra is going ONLINE this Summer!
Whether you live in Brighton or in Barbados, Berlin or Bali... whether you're on holiday or stuck at home in quarantine... if you love making music and have access to a computer you can join us for our sizzling summer orchestral extravaganza!
This is how it will work:
• You sign up your kids to the most exciting and most inclusive youth orchestra club in Brighton (possibly in the world, ha ha!)
• You tell us what your child's experience on their instrument is (we work with all levels, from pre-Grade 1 to Grade 8)
• We write bespoke parts for your child for two exciting pieces of music - tailor made to suit their ability - which we will email to you, along with computer-created recordings so the children can hear what they will play.
• We all meet up at the beginning of August for an Introductory Zoom Meeting (date to be confirmed) where the kids can talk to us and ask questions, meet each other and find out more about the pieces of music we'll be playing.
• Over the following couple of weeks we offer each child 2 x 45-minute individual lessons at a time convenient to you (via Zoom or, if you live nearby and the weather is good, socially distanced 1-2-1 lessons in our lovely big back garden in Brighton!).
• During August, your child practises their parts (and we'll be available to answer questions by phone or email if children need extra guidance).
• Towards the end of the month, you film your child playing their parts and email the videos to us (we will have sent a track that they can play along to so that all children are playing at the same speed!).
• We edit all the videos together and create a totally unique communal performance video of 2020's remote Philharmonic Friends Youth Orchestra. Your kids are the stars!
• Everyone meets again via Zoom to discuss how we got on, and maybe to play individual bits of music to each other.
• Grand Finale YouTube Show at the end of August when we will broadcast the video for friends and family near and far to enjoy (of course this will be on a private channel, accessible only by friends and family).
After four years of running our holiday clubs in person - with real live groups of children making friends and making music - this is the first time we're doing this online. We are offering a special introductory rate of £39 per child. (In some circumstances we can offer a reduced rate - please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to chat about this.)
We hope you'll agree that this is a fantastic opportunity - and a total bargain! Your children will receive two private individual lessons and masses of expert support during the month of August, as well as their own bespoke parts at the beginning, fun Zoom group sessions, and a video at the end to keep for ever.
Please get in touch if you would like to sign your child up, and feel free to share this email with your musical friends, cousins and neighbours the world over!
