به تاریخ۴ ثور ۱۳۹۷ /۲۵ آپریل ۲۰۱۸، انستیتوت مطالعات استراتژیک افغانستان سومین کنفرانس «هرات و سیاست» را در شهر هرات برگزار کرد؛ نشستی که در ادامهی سلسلهگفتوگوهایی شکل گرفت که هدف آن بازاندیشی جایگاه این شهر در ساختار سیاسی و فکری کشور بود. این برنامه با حضور مقامهای دولتی، استادان دانشگاه، پژوهشگران، فعالان مدنی و فرهنگی و رسانهای برگزار شد و در چند نشست پیدرپی، پیوند میان گفتمانهای دینی و تحولات اجتماعی و سیاسی مورد بحث قرار گرفت.

In April 2020, AISS facilitated an online roundtable discussing its third volume of the Mehr Brief, titled "Heart of Asia Regional Order." The speakers included Mohibullah Noori, founder of the Heart of Asia Nations Integration Movement; Dr. Jafar Haghpanah, a professor at Tehran University and head of the Afghanistan Studies desk at the Association of Political Sciences of Iran; and Shameem Ahmad Nawber, a Ph.D. student at Tsinghua University of China.

در فاصله چند هفته در بهار امسال، سه رویداد با معنای عمیق معنوی در جهان یهودی و ایرانی رخ میدهد. جوامع یهودی «پوریم» را جشن میگیرند؛ جشنی که یادآور نجات یهودیان در ایران باستان است. مسلمانان شیعه نیز «شب قدر» را که مقدسترین شب ماه رمضان است، برگزار میکنند. و در ۲۰ مارس، میلیونها نفر در ایران، افغانستان و سراسر حوزه تمدنی ایران، «نوروز» – سال نو ایرانی و جشن تازهسازی که قدمتش از اسلام هم بیشتر است – را خوشآمد میگویند. اما امسال، این فصل نوسازی در سایه موشکها و جنگ فرا میرسد.

Dr Davood Moradian, Director of AISS, will deliver a lecture at the University of St Andrews titled “Afghanistan under the Taliban Five Years On: An Assessment” on Thursday, 16 April 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, at the Arts Building, Arts Lecture Theatre, St Andrews. The event is organized by the Institute of Middle East, Central Asia and Caucasus Studies and is open to all audiences. This lecture will address the condition of Afghanistan under the Taliban regime, five years after their return to power, with attention to the country’s human rights crisis, the situation of women, the presence of terrorist groups, and the broader question of Afghanistan’s political and civilizational future.

April 09, 2019: AISS held a roundtable Discussion on “Afghanistan: A Platform of Cordiality and Cooperation for All”. Distinguished academics, civil society members, and media representatives attended the event. The purpose of the program was to discuss how Afghanistan could become a hub of regional and international cooperation. Read more:

On Monday, April 19, 2021, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS), launched its research paper titled “A Constitutional Reckoning with the Taliban’s Brand of Islamist Politics: The Hard Path Ahead”. The launching ceremony was accompanied by an online discussion with Dr. Haroun Rahimi, author of the research and assistant professor at the American University of Afghanistan; Dr. Clark Lombardi, professor of law at the University of Washington; Mohammad Isaqzadeh, Ph.D. candidate in the department of Politics at Princeton University; and Dr. Lutf-ur-Rehman Saeed, head of the Foundation for Constitutional Studies. April 7, 2026: The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies collaborated with Leipzig University in Germany to host a virtual roundtable discussion on March 7, 2024. The topic of discussion was the "Dimensions of Psychological Warfare by Terrorist Groups Taliban and ISIS". The Institute launched this program through X-Space and continued it on Zoom Webinar.

On Monday, April 1, 2019, the Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) regional office in Herat launched its recent research paper titled “Political Settlement of the Afghanistan Conflict: Divergent Models”. A number of academicians, civil activists, political activists, clergies, University students, and media activists participated in the event.

On March 31, 2021, AISS, the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses of India (MP-IDSA), and the Institute for Political and International Studies of Iran (IPIS) co-organized the "4th Round of Afghanistan-India-Iran Trilateral Dialogue" through a virtual discussion among Afghan, Indian, and Iranian scholars and government officials. The panel discussions mainly focused on Afghanistan's peace processes, economic cooperation and connectivity, and regional cooperation.
The first, second, and third meetings were held in Tehran (2016), Kabul (2017), and New Delhi (2021).

A new opinion article, “From Purim to Nowruz,” is published by Dr. Moradian, DG of AISS at The Blogs. The piece turns to an older chapter of the Persianate world, revisiting the story of Purim to reflect on power, memory, and the fragile place of communities within empire. By situating parts of present-day Afghanistan within that historical setting, the article offers a quiet reminder that today’s realities do not stand alone, but are shaped by longer histories of survival, displacement, and endurance.
