Brighton & Hove Montessori School

We would like to share that Daisy Cockburn will be stepping down as proprietor of Brighton & Hove Montessori School at the end of this month - November 2024.

For the past 40 years, Daisy has sought to welcome each child as they are and adapt Montessori learning provision to their individual needs. She is thankful for her own childhood experiences of Montessori learning at St Christopher School, Letchworth and subsequent studies of Developmental Psychology and Cognitive Science at Sussex University and later linking Montessori pedagogy with The Capabilities Approach thanks to funding from The Guerrand Hermes Foundation for Peace. Bids (from late 1990s into 2010s) for establishing a Montessori school within the state system drew absolutely amazing support from families, but, despite high approval ratings from the DfE, were rejected. Daisy’s thanks go out to many people who have contributed in so many ways to the school community over the years. Inspiring and brilliant colleagues, families and friends of the school, but mostly brilliantly inspiring children!

Daisy is now living in Derbyshire, spending time with grandchildren, loads of art and music and the occasional motorbike ride.

Last weekend, our dedicated team completed Paediatric First Aid training, further ensuring the safety and well-being of the children in our care. We believe that a peaceful, nurturing environment begins with preparedness, and we’re proud to have staff who are always ready to respond with care and confidence. • Practical Life Skills: Engaging in activities that develop independence
• Grace and courtesy: Reestablishing class routines
• The Five Great Stories: Our Elementary children will be introduced to the Montessori Five Great Stories, which provide a broad, imaginative overview of the world. These stories include the creation of the universe, the coming of life, and the development of human beings, igniting curiosity and setting the stage for deeper exploration throughout the year.
