Conscious Dance - September
Sat 12 Sept, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, £15 (full price) / £12 (concession) Conscious dance is an opportunity to practice presence, connect with body and mind, and express yourself freely and creatively through movement. We begin with a short opening circle and guided warm up inspired by Yoga, Dance, Qi Gong and embodiment practices, followed by a mix of guided and free movement. Together we explore energy, freedom, confidence, taking up space, and the elemental qualities of water, fire, earth and air. Music will vary in rhythm, style and tempo, offering space to dance alone or connect with others if you wish. No dance experience is needed — only openness and curiosity. The practice encourages self-care, kindness, compassion and the courage to fully be yourself. It can support physical strength and expression, nervous system regulation, emotional release, meditation and positive change in daily life. We close with relaxation, meditation and an optional sharing circle. This will be a mobile phone free space to support deeper presence and connection. Do you feel like there’s a writer inside of you, waiting to surface? Maybe you’ve written some poetry, dabbled with short fiction, or just kept a lively journal? Whatever writing experience you have, you’re welcome on this multi-form course. Led by writer and facilitator Eva Hibbs, there’ll be opportunities to craft description, build believable characters, and even write a sonnet. The first half of the course will expose you to different forms of writing, giving you a chance to try your hand at lots of things. Then, in the second half you’ll choose a form to focus on and work on bringing a piece to completion. Whether that’s a short story, a collection of poems, a monologue or memoir, you’ll practice translating your life experience into imaginative writing and sharing your creative ideas. Your tutor Eva Hibbs is a local writer and workshop facilitator. Since completing her master’s in Creative Writing, she’s led fiction and poetry workshops with groups in lots of different settings – from wellbeing centres to boardrooms. Two of her plays have been produced by The Pleasance Theatre and her fiction has been published in a variety of literary journals. But! She’s a firm believer in process over publication. Creating imaginative work is a fun, healing experience which allows for greater self knowledge (and exploration). Book online

Inspired by the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli, these Hatha Yoga classes in Brighton give you time in each posture to cultivate an inner awareness and undo the tensions of your body • Classes include breathing/pranayama techniques • Suitable for complete beginners and for those with some experience. Why choose this course? This course offers an invigorating and rejuvenating experience in the style of Scaravelli yoga. Central to Vanda Scaravelli is the mindful interplay of the spine, the breath and the ground beneath us, encouraging an understanding of gravity, fluidity and ease. Jane’s courses present the opportunity to ‘build’ over the weeks, whereas drop-in classes stand alone with varying themes during each session. Using the Scaravelli principles of finding ease within each posture, these classes are particularly suitable for people who experience restrictions within their bodies, or think they can’t do yoga. Your tutor Jane Manze encourages students to discover a greater body awareness, flexibility and core strength within this wonderful practice, and brings somatic education to these sessions. Jane has a background in martial arts and has been teaching dance, yoga and bodywork for many years. Find out more at www.janemanze.com book online evolutionartsbrighton
