Happy World Environment Day!
Today, we celebrate the beauty of our planet and the importance of protecting it for future generations.
At Loxdale, we are proud to welcome students from around the world and encourage everyone to make small, positive changes that can have a big impact—whether that's reducing waste, recycling, saving energy, or choosing sustainable ways to travel.
Together, we can help create a cleaner, greener future for all.

Loxdale English Centre
Loxdale English Centre Welcome to Loxdale English Centre page! It's great to see so many different cultures at the school now. in English.
We were established as the Swedish Folk High School in 1968 and were based in Palmeira Square, Hove, Brighton until we moved to our current site in Portslade, Brighton in 1979. To start with we only had students from Scandinavia and we started taking international students from all over the world in 2007. We regularly have past students pop in and see us which is fabulous as it really shows how fo
During our visit to Salisbury with our adult students, we had the wonderful coincidence of witnessing the ceremonial change of the Mayor of the city. This special event made the day even more memorable and gave our students a unique opportunity to experience an important local tradition and a part of British civic culture.
Another highlight of the day was our visit to St Nicholas Church, where the students had the pleasure of dressing in the famous “Coat of Hopes.” The Coat of Hopes is a remarkable patchwork coat made from pieces of fabric donated by people from different communities. Each patch carries personal hopes, prayers, memories, and messages for the future, symbolising unity, kindness, and shared humanity. The coat has travelled across the country on pilgrimages and community walks, bringing people together through stories, reflection, and hope for a better world.
Wearing the Coat of Hopes was certainly a unique experience. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it definitely gave our students something different to remember and talk about, adding a cultural and emotional dimension to the visit to Salisbury.

Less about strikes… more about style
An international league of very serious bowlers (and even more serious poses).
Fluent in English, confidence… and a little bit of drama on the lanes.
Scores may come and go, but the vibes? Top of the leader board.
At Loxdale, we don’t just learn English… we practice our champion poses too 😉

What a fantastic evening we had on 30th April with our Kemptown & Lanes classes!
Our students brought the spirit of Sweden to life as they introduced us to Valborg – the celebration marking the start of spring. From the traditional Swedish garden game Kubb to other fun and typical games, the evening was filled with laughter, friendly competition and great energy!
Of course, no celebration is complete without snacks and drinks… and we had plenty of both!
We’re proud to have a special connection with Sweden, but what truly makes evenings like this so special is our diversity – students from all over the world coming together, sharing their cultures and creating unforgettable memories.
Fun, fun, fun all the way!
We’ve been having so much fun with our Taskmaster style games this week!
The creativity, teamwork, and pure brilliance our students bring to every challenge never fails to amaze us. From thinking outside the box to making us laugh along the way, they truly make each activity unforgettable.
We are so proud of every single one of them.
Moments like these remind us why we love what we do, building not just language skills, but a vibrant, supportive, and joyful community of international students.
