🌟 FOOTSTEPS AT PORTSLADE 🌟

Whilst reading stories, the toddlers showed a huge interest in our pirate book and after reading it, they all were discussing the use of treasure maps and naming everything they could see on the map within the book. From this keen interest and to extend their learning, we decided to create our own treasure maps using tea bags and water and scrunching the paper. The children made their own marks with pens on their paper to finish their maps and mark the treasure with a big 'X'. They then took their maps into the garden and searched high and low for the hidden treasure.

🤩 FOOTSTEPS AT HOVE 🤩

Last week, our preschool group made their own number matching activity where they had to count the dots on their sun and then hunt for the matching number on the pegs. They used plant pots to each draw around and make their own sun which the adults then put different amounts of dots on for the children to count. The children worked hard and stayed focus on this activity whilst learning to recognise numbers up to 10. They exercised their fine motor skills when pinching the pegs to place on their correct sun.

⭐️ FOOTSTEPS AT HOVE ⭐️

The babies have been enjoying getting to know their new friends within our baby room this week. They have loved playing peekaboo, using the sensory scarves to hide and then say “boo” as they appear again! This experience has supported our newest members of the baby room build a strong bond with their key person and others within the room 🥰

At music time, the children have been sitting and observing their teachers and then copying them by using their fine motor skills to grasp and shake the musical instruments, whilst attempting to sing along to their favourite songs!

🐚 FOOTSTEPS AT PORTSLADE 🐚

With the warmer weather greeting us, the children have been coming into nursery talking about the weather change and telling us all about their trips to the beach so we decided to create our own beach within a sensory tray. Whilst the children were exploring, we discussed the different textures that we could feel and learnt some new words such as "gooey, slushy, dry, wet and bumpy." The children felt the dry sand, which then changed to feeling slushy as they mixed it with the water. Once all the sand had been mixed with the water, we discussed how it might now feel like the bottom of the ocean and added some sea animals that they thought might live at the bottom of the sea. We also used this opportunity to discuss how to stay safe in the sun and why we need to apply sun cream, wear a hat and drink lots of water.

🌸🌼 SUMMER FETE, NURSERY OPEN DAY 🌼🌸

We are extremely excited for our Summer Fete Open Day that will take place on Saturday 13th July, at your local nursery!

🤩 FOOTSTEPS DAY NURSERY AT HOVE 🤩

The Preschool children have been spending some time practicing using their new food preparation set, building upon their independence and confidence. This set includes some chopping boards, child safety knives, peelers and various shape cutters. They have been practicing peeling and chopping potatoes in preparation to soon be able to prepare their own fruit and vegetables at snack time. One child made a star with one of the shape cutters and was instantly wanting to try the other different shapes. This experience has been great for promoting the children's confidence, independence and their ability to follow safety instructions from their teachers.
