📍 - Hackney Marshes, London.

Join me for a beautiful mid-afternoon foraging walk. On the walk we stop at various species of plants, trees and fungi and discuss their uses; culinary, medicinal and historical, as well as chemical and nutritional profiles of our local species.

I’m very excited to announce a new venue to run mushroom foraging workshops this year.

Wild Weald is an idyllic private, ancient woodland shaped by Roman potteries and medieval iron work. With an already established diversity fungi it makes an excellent choice for mushroom workshops!

The trees are aware the solar eclipse is happening .

What does this all mean?

They don’t fully know yet, as is the case with so much of the natural world. I hope to see further studies in this field.

If you don’t know of Suzzane Simard or Monica Gagliano I highly recommend you check out their work.

🌿Common hogweed

As with all members of the carrot family take extra care when looking to identify this plant.

This isn’t an ID video, you need to understand all the features before you begin to think about foraging it.

The potential burns are coming from the sun so in this hot weather you need to be especially careful.

Be safe.

Rosebay Willow herb or chamaenerion angustifolium.

We like this plant.

The tea is called Ivan chai or Koporye, it’s fire trust me.

Only pick things when you are 100% certain of your identification and always cross reference sources, one is not enough!

Forage responsibly (don’t be greedy).

🍍Pineapple W**d

Matricaria Discoidia - meaning without ray florets.

It grows in compacted soils, for ID it’s cool to use the street but if you’re looking to eat it I wouldn’t pick from there.

Look in cow grazing fields or well trodden paths, wash your food, always wash your food.

Only forage things when you are 100% certain of the identification features, the first time you ID a plant is not the first time you eat it!
