The first few weeks of nursery can look different for every child.

Some head straight through the door ready to explore. Others need a little more reassurance. And even children who seemed completely settled at first can have days when saying goodbye suddenly feels harder.

That's all part of getting used to something new.

During these early weeks, familiar routines, consistent faces and plenty of communication between home and nursery all help children gradually find their feet.

And remember: settling isn't always a straight line. One difficult morning doesn't undo all the progress that came before it.

💡 Parent tip: Let your child's key person know about anything that might have affected their morning; a restless night, a change in routine, anything at all. Those small details help us understand what they might need from us that day.

Learning colours is about so much more than recognising red, blue and yellow 🎨

Through simple matching activities, children develop observation skills, concentration and early problem-solving as they compare, sort and make connections independently.

Our practitioners carefully build on children's interests, creating playful learning opportunities that help every child grow in confidence.

It's amazing how much learning can happen through play.

🏡Try at Home:
Choose a colour together before heading out for a walk or around the house. See how many objects your child can find that match that colour. It's a simple activity that develops observation skills, vocabulary and colour recognition.

There's nothing quite like watching a child's excitement as tiny caterpillars begin their incredible transformation. 🦋

Observing the life cycle up close encourages curiosity, careful observation and plenty of thoughtful conversations as children begin to understand how living things grow and change.

These real-life experiences help children make meaningful connections with the world around them while inspiring a lifelong love of nature.

Sometimes the smallest discoveries create the biggest moments of wonder.

🏡Try at Home:

While you're out on a walk, see what insects you can spot together. Talk about where they live, how they move and what makes them different. Taking a magnifying glass can make the adventure even more exciting!

iStep into School 🌟

School readiness looks different for every child. Some children will feel excited, others may need a little more reassurance, and both are completely normal. Every child develops at their own pace.

A few gentle ways to support the transition include:
• Remembering that every child settles differently.
• Practising short separations where appropriate.
• Keeping goodbyes positive and reassuring.
• Talking positively about starting school.
• Celebrating the things your child can already do.

Starting school is a big milestone for the whole family, and it's perfectly normal for parents to feel emotional too.

Because school readiness isn't about reaching a finish line, it's about taking the next step with confidence.

From our Pre-School at Cromwell Road🌿

There's nothing quite like taking learning outdoors!

Our Pre-School children have been making the most of the garden, enjoying story times in the sunshine and getting creative with our Mega Blocks. From building impressive towers to creating their own imaginative designs, the children have loved working together and sharing their ideas as they play.

Some of the loveliest moments have been the simplest ones – sitting together with a favourite story and enjoying the fresh air with friends.

The great outdoors offers so many opportunities for children to explore, create and problem-solve, all while having lots of fun along the way. 🌞

From our Babies & Toddlers 🎨

There's something so special about a giant sheet of paper and an invitation to get creative!

Our Babies and Toddlers enjoyed exploring paint dabbers and chunky pencils as they made their marks, experimented with colours and created a collaborative masterpiece together. With plenty of space to spread out on the floor, the children were free to explore and express themselves in their own unique way.

From bold splodges of colour to careful lines and patterns, every child's contribution helped to create a beautiful piece of artwork. Working together also brought lots of opportunities to share resources, chat with friends and celebrate one another's creations.

We think the finished masterpiece speaks for itself! 🌈

🏡 Try at home:
Roll out some paper on the floor and let your little one explore mark-making with chunky crayons or washable paints. Sometimes the simplest activities create the happiest memories.

Little Routines, Big Confidence 🌟

Simple routines at home can make all the difference:
👕 Laying out clothes the night before.
🕒 Using a visual timetable for morning routines.
🙌 Encouraging children to do things independently where possible.
🧥 Practising putting on coats and shoes.
☀️ Allowing plenty of time for calm, unhurried mornings.

Children thrive when they know what to expect. Predictable routines help build confidence and create a positive start to each day.
