WE ARE LOOKING FOR A PROGRAMME LEADER – DANCE
(Fixed Term until May 2027)

Varndean Sixth Form College is a dynamic and vibrant college where creativity, aspiration and excellence thrive. Every day brings the chance to make a real difference. Our students are exceptional, curious, thoughtful and full of potential.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, suitably qualified and innovative Programme Leader to lead our Dance programme. The Dance Department at Varndean Sixth Form College is highly regarded both locally and nationally, achieving consistently strong outcomes and progression rates. A significant proportion of students progress to specialist higher education and conservatoire training in dance and the performing arts.

Dance is delivered through the BTEC Level 3 qualification, with achievement and retention rates consistently above national averages. Teaching takes place in a well-equipped studio environment that supports both technical and creative development. The department actively encourages experimentation, critical thinking and interdisciplinary practice. Staff and students explore contemporary dance through diverse movement vocabularies, styles and collaborative approaches. Students regularly progress to leading institutions, including The Place, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, and other university dance programmes.

Do you care about community, people and making things run smoothly?
We’re looking for a Community Centre Manager to lead the day-to-day running of our much-loved community centre in Hangleton. This is a hands-on role at the heart of the community - making sure the building is safe, welcoming and well run, supporting staff, and helping the centre thrive.
You don’t need to know everything on day one. We’re especially keen to hear from people who are organised, community-minded and either digitally confident or keen to learn - someone who enjoys improving systems and finding better ways of doing things.
✨ What you’ll be doing:
• Managing the daily running of the centre
• Supporting and line-managing staff
• Overseeing bookings, finances, health & safety and safeguarding
• Making sure bills are paid and invoices are sent on time
• Improving systems (for example, making room and party bookings more efficient)
• Building relationships with local people, groups and partners
• Helping grow income and community impact over time
👀 We’re looking for someone who ideally:
• Has experience in a community, charity or similar setting
• Is organised, practical and people-focused
• Has good IT skills or is happy to learn
• Cares about inclusion, fairness and community voice
💛 We would especially welcome applications from people who live in, or have strong connections to, the local communities the centre exists to serve - but everyone is welcome to apply.
👉 If you feel you have some but not all the skills, please apply anyway.
👉 If you’d like an informal chat with a Trustee before applying, we’d be happy to arrange that.
📅 Closing date: by the end of 11th April 2026
📧 How to apply: please send your CV with a covering letter that sets out how you meet the Job Description and Person Specification.
Please tell us what having this job would mean to you ,and your availability to start if offered the role.
Send application to [email protected]
