Looking for a volunteering opportunity? How about Jamestown in Accra, Ghana? You will help out at the Universal Wonderful Street School, working with children from the fishing community who otherwise would probably not get to go to school at all. A first visit to Solid Rock School in Kumasi, Ghana, where we met the Assistant Principal Ebenezer. His passion for teaching was inspiring, and we can't wait to send volunteers there. Another visit to the orphanage we are helping to build in Denu, Ghana, to see progress. Work has started on plastering the buildings and the next step will be to concrete the floors. Koku (left) does the hard work labouring under the hot Ghana sun, and our job is to come back to Europe and fundraise to support the building, as well as find volunteers to get involved in this and other projects.

The German NGO On The Move e.V. is very proud to announce the implementation of the Brain Awareness Week in Ghana from September 9th to September 27th. This educational program brings Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University faculty and post-doctoral fellows to Ghana to educate the community about the brain and its role in mental illness, in an effort to reduce the stigma associated with psychiatric disease and to inspire young Africans to pursue scientific careers.
