This week at Crescent Road, the children have been enjoying their "make your mark" curriculum, exploring various ways to make different marks with different materials. This week, the children used ball pit balls and different coloured paint to make marks.
The children were working on their fine motor skills, rolling the balls in the paint and creating lots of swirly patterns.

Construction 🧱
EYFS Links: Physical, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design

Today, the kindergarten children at Preston Drove continued their exploration of building in the garden. They worked with bricks and blocks of various sizes, as well as different-sized lolly sticks and clear plastic rods.

Using the sticks, they threaded them through the holes in the bricks and then stacked the bricks on top of each other. They also laid the lolly sticks across the blocks and bricks.

This week in Preschool at St Botolphs Road, the children have been exploring painting in our garden using earth colours chosen by the children. The children were using their hands, brushes and other garden items to make marks using their fine motor skills. We look forward to seeing where our garden explorations take us over the next few weeks!

This week the children in Preschool, in Hove were delighted to discover beans growing in our nursery allotment. They carefully explored the plants, moving the leaves aside to observe the beans more closely. Together, they practised our counting skills, counting the beans from one to three!

The children also used a microscope to examine the beans in greater detail, developing their curiosity and understanding of the natural world through hands-on investigation.

Then the children had the opportunity to taste a small piece of fresh green bean with their tea, encouraging them to explore new foods and make connections between growing, harvesting, and eating produce from the garden.

Kindergarten at Steyning has asked, "What does Dragon Land look like?"
Continuing with the children’s interest in Dragons, they have been elaborating on their ideas about where dragons live and talking in detail about their habitat. For example, where they might sleep, lay eggs, what they eat and who else lives with them.

At Steyning, the children in Kindergarten have been introduced to the term, “Symmetry”, the children were asked to think about what it might mean and were provided with loose parts (shells, flowers petals and leaves) and drawing materials to explore the idea further and were challenged to make both sides of their drawings and collages ‘the same’.

To extend the interest in making patterns and symmetry further and to introduce mathematical concepts with the children, this will be explored on a large scale out in the garden using loose parts.
