There is nothing like wall to wall sunshine to make you look at your summer wardrobe.

But if you're feeling out of shape, as if your belly and hips have expanded even more since last summer despite you exercising and trying to eat. healthily, it can be frustrating and depressing.

Hormones can change a lot of things...but you can totally turn this around with simple strategies and without extreme diets. Here's what to do...

Start eating 3 meals a day, with a balance of slow release carbohydrates, healthy fats (but not too many) and lean sources of protein.

Eat breakfast, even if you don't feel hungry. Fasting does NOT serve midlife women well so get over it. If it worked, you wouldn't be reading this.

Measure your waist and hip and use that to track the success of your strategy. If you don't see any change, spend 7 days using a calorie tracker and use it as data to help you create change that will help you lose body fat.

That's it. There are no magic pills or gimmicks. It's awareness and smart application of a strategy that you stay consistent to.

At 66 years old, Sonia is in the best shape she's been in for over 20 years.

When Sonia first started with us, she was like many women, brainwashed into thinking that eating tiny meals, was the way to lose weight.

It was doing nothing for her, except leaving her feeling exhausted with brain fog.

She was also eating lots of 'buzz' foods like bone broth and kefir, but none of this was actually helping to fuel her body to exercise or to allow her to lose body fat.

Now eating more, with 3 meals a day, Sonia has lost an incredible 20lbs and has gone from someone who feared lifting heavy to a woman who loves it.

It's given her the confidence to move to Australia to be nearer her daughter on her own, hike, explore and more.

Busy midlife women short on time?

Most of us, eh?

Our workouts are devised so that you get the most bang for your buck - why do a core exercise when you can do one that also helps to tighten your arms?

Give this one a go but remember that as the weight goes over your head, it's about keeping your ribs soft - not flared - which engages your core.

Being a healthy body composition isn’t about starving yourself, the all or nothing lifestyle of either not going out because ‘you’re trying to be good’ or going ‘full in’ because ‘life’s too short.’

Sorry to be blunt but all or nothing mindsets are something that you need to grow out of if you’re still stuck in that trap. Get smarter with your outlook on food and drink.

You put on body fat through consistently drinking and eating more than your body’s energy requirements.

This isn’t done over a weekend or even a week’s holiday. It’s done over time, consistently saying ‘f**k it, life’s too short,’ until you’ve suddenly made your life shorter due to unhealthy levels of visceral fat.

And likewise, losing body fat and building lean muscle is done over time.

But being mindful of the things you do choose on holiday makes it easier.

Be intentional about ensuring you get enough protein and slow release carbohydrates in your diet to fuel myself.

Structure your meal times so you don’t end up going to a party having ‘saved calories’ for it and end up inhaling the bread and crisps.

Choose drinks that are kickass but have less calories…Vodka martinis instead of a creamy drink or endless pints…

Salads that don’t need or require creamy dressings - watermelon, feta and mint instead of chicken caesar.

Or you can keep pursusing the short term gratification and tell yourself ‘life’s too short,’ until it really is because you’ve driven up your levels of visceral fat.

Krishna Shah, 46, initially joined Kickass Midlife Method to improve her body composition.

As a mum and teacher and head of department at a busy London school, plus her in laws living with her, life is busy.

But she's learned to prioritise her own goals and what makes her feel good too.
