I love this game! Use a 5 minute timer and fish for the sounds! Once you’ve “caught” a sound, write a word beginning with, or featuring, that sound. It’s a great way to expose children to capital letter use too! See who can catch the most sounds! My little brainiac races against Buzz (my hand puppet) ❤️❤️❤️

For those parents struggling with home learning phonics - this is an awesome way to remind your kids of the sounds they have learnt at school (and maybe even pick up a few new ones too!). Once a day, encouraging them to join in with the actions, will work wonders 😊😊😊 # # #

One of my little boys is obsessed with both space and cats - so I created a series of writing lessons with a cat astronaut - Dr Fluffkins! After fiddling with zoom video backgrounds for a million years it really paid off as he was so engaged with the learning! Tailoring lessons to fit the child’s interests is such an important part of good Early Years practice ☺️

Noticing patterns in the environment, and being able to continue a pattern, is an important skill for Early Years children. These guys do a great little introduction for your little one to bop along to! Also see if they can notice patterns in their environment; in leaves, the bark on trees, snowflakes, cut in half oranges etc. Happy Friday everyone! ❤️❤️❤️

I wanted to create a writing lesson around Santa that didn’t focus on presents for a little girl I tutor. I sent her a letter from “Rudolf” saying that Santa had bumped his head and forgotten everything that was special about Christmas! We then wrote a list of all the best things about Christmas, and although “presents” did get a mention, the main focus was “visiting” as she loved visiting her grandma and friends at Christmas. This kind of activity is great for all abilities as you can start with writing single words in the “snow” (flour/salt/sugar) and progress to whole sentences and/or whole letter writing! Also I loved how it steered away from what children want and focussed more on what they already love and appreciate about Christmas ❤️. Give it a go!! Merry Christmas from Lily’s Learning ❤️❤️❤️ ❄️ ❄️ ❄️

Junk Modelling is SUCH a great way to enable children to independently access Expressive Art and Design - such an important Early Learning area. And it’s so easy! Just keep all your: cereal boxes, egg boxes, milk bottle tops etc - anything they want to use! Keep these in a designated “building area” with glue, sellotape and paints/glitter (if you’re brave!) and watch their imaginations fly! ❤️❤️❤️
