8th year as an AQA Examiner ππ»

2025 Language Paper 1 Examiner insight: Many students failed to meet level 3 for question 5, resulting in the majority scoring 20/40- typically Grade 4.
Question 2 and 3 4/8 being the majority.
Question 4- A significant drop overall, many achieving level 2 or 3. Most responses not evaluating methods or showing comprehension of what happened in the extract.
The source was significantly more difficult than previous, which is evident in student responses.
What is clear, is the impact of COVID especially for the younger years.
It is profound on a national scale there are still gaps in learning in my evaluations of the 1500 scripts that I have marked.
I was part of and led βcatch upβ schemes funded by the government but this cohort specifically seem to have more than previous.
Perhaps these were the forgotten years as they were in KS3 at the time and therefore not prioritised as those in KS4.
It will be interesting to see what the exam boards do in response to this.
One thing is for sure, lower boundaries are needed for this year!

What a fabulous idea from Wendy!
At the end of a learning a topic, students reflect on what they've learned, where theyβve been challenged and how they've grown.
How does your class record their progress at the end of a topic?
