In my Change Makers Interview Series I ask each person to share a fundraising cause, community project, or advocacy campaign they support.

In my first interview with Emma Thomas Hancock - Who volunteering has helped me become, Emma shared one cause close to her heart, is helping older people overcome isolation and loneliness.

She is a volunteer bingo caller at two supported housing associations for LifeLines, an older volunteer led project in Brighton supporting older people.

LifeLines volunteers host activities for older people in community venues across the city with a focus on social connections, health and wellbeing and having fun.

Along with traditional groups like coffee mornings, arts and crafts, reminiscence and gentle exercise, they also try out new and different experiences. The funkier the better!

Like Dungeons & Dragons, Silver Gaming, Snacking on Shakespeare, Creative Expressions.

To find out more about how an older person can join Lifelines wellbeing activities or be accompanied to health appointments visit their website https://lifelinesbrightonhove.org.uk or call 01273 688 117.

Over 50 years old? Why not contact LifeLines to share your skills and volunteer?

Love LifeLines work? donate to Volunteering Matters to help them help more people. https://checkout.justgiving.com/c/56275

We all have personal callings to make the world better, an inner sense that we have something to contribute or that we want to help address a particular issue.

An idea that keeps surfacing over and over until it is followed.
When we listen to these callings and start to move towards them we unlock what really lights us up and gives us purpose.

In my new Change Makers Interview Series, I chat to Change Makers, who dedicate time outside of their day jobs to make a positive contribution that helps people or the planet.

We explore some big questions.

How do you recognise a calling to change the status quo for the better?

How do you start?

How does it feel and change you to be contributing in this way?

Check out my first Change Makers Interview:

Emma Thomas Hancock - Who volunteering has helped me become

Emma is Director of Delivery at Volunteering Matters and Mum of two. Emma has been donating her time as a volunteer for many years and her contributions are inspiring.

When self-confidence is propped up by seeking external validation from others it is built on fragile foundations.

We are easily knocked when things don’t go to plan.

We slip into self-criticism and only feel confident when others acknowledge us or our talents.

In my True Confidence Workshop I’ll be sharing how to create and grow True Confidence.

A confidence which grows over time and allows you to feel deeply self-assured about who you are and what you have to offer.

We’ll explore how to build self-belief and deeply trust yourself and your own judgement.

Includes guided journaling to help you set four actions to immediately show up more confidently.

Beautiful words from Tara Mohr.

The problems we see in the world around us, the issues we think about again and again that we’d love to see shift and change are sent to guide us.

To guide our meaningful contributions which change the world for the better.

Giving your time in small ways creates positive shifts and helps you feel more aligned and fulfilled.

But how can we start to answer the callings we feel to make a meaningful contribution outside of work?

Explore issues which ignite your passion, perhaps it’s women’s rights, inequality, homelessness, loneliness, protecting the environment, something else you see around you that needs addressing.

What’s your priority?

How could you start to contribute?

What skills and talents do you have to share?

What shape would your contribution take?
Volunteering? Joining a community project or campaigning action? Setting up a space for people to come together?

I support my clients to explore their callings and find their own unique way to make a meaningful contribution.
