It is Safer Sleep Week!

We know that all babies have different sleep schedules and night waking can be really tiring for most parents. But safe sleep reduces the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome).

Follow the ABC's for every sleep, day and night, until your baby is 12 months old (or 12 months after their due date for premature or low birth weight babies).

Always sleep your baby on their back in a clear cot or safe space.

At ToyBox we practice the ABC's of safe sleep and all children who sleep at our preschool have their own cribs.

Shadows and Light!

This week, the children's love for the book Foggy Foggy Forest by Nick Sharratt inspired their creative and imaginative play. They led their own learning as they explored shadows and light, using a lightbox and sensory toys.

The children enjoyed connecting with construction materials and experimenting with colours. Through their exploration, they created patterns on the walls with bubble timers and observed how shadows appeared.

They also mixed coloured Perspex to create purple, orange, and pink. This play fostered an environment of discovery and autonomy, reflecting the Reggio Emilia approach to learning.

This week the children have been very busy creating amazing artwork for their special people! We have been crafting wands, using lots of imaginative play in the home corner and being kind to one another. It has been a wonderful end to the term.

At Toybox we understand the importance of all children having a sense of belonging.
We nurture this by encouraging the children to share their stories and experiences , providing translators if required.
Alongside discussing shared experiences, we are also reading the children several books to open the dialogue, discuss our differences and raise awareness of the situations of others in our community.

Last year, ToyBox, received the Sanctuary Nursery Award recognising our aim to celebrate common humanity and the contributions made by those who have come here for safety, while tackling the isolation and fear faced by many seeking sanctuary.
