Next week we are starting to use beef from East Marsh Farm in Goxhill for some of our school meals.
As a small school, we like to support local businesses where we can, and it doesn’t get much more local than this. If we’re asking children to learn about their community, where food comes from and how to make healthy choices, then it makes sense to bring those lessons to life wherever possible.
For many of our children, food can be a huge sensory and emotional experience. Some have a limited range of foods they feel comfortable eating, whilst others can feel anxious about trying something new. We are always looking for ways to encourage curiosity, exploration and positive relationships with food without pressure or judgement. Understanding where food comes from and being able to connect it to real people and places helps build those positive experiences.
We’re also very excited that Farmer Amie will be visiting us soon to teach the children about farming, caring for animals, food production and the journey from farm to plate. We know the children will have lots of questions, and it will be a fantastic opportunity to bring their learning to life through real experiences and real conversations.
We’re proud to be investing in our local community, reducing food miles and providing high quality ingredients for our children. Small choices like these help our children develop a greater understanding of the world around them while supporting the people who make our local community such a special place.
Now, whether the children embrace locally sourced beef and a newfound passion for farming, or continue their unwavering commitment to beige food and chicken nuggets, remains to be seen… but we’re giving it our best shot! 😂🐄🚜
LOCAL BEEF IN A LOCAL SCHOOL 🇬🇧
A few weeks ago, Debbie got in touch to ask whether we could supply the school she works at with locally produced beef each month.
The answer was absolutely YES 🙌🏻
There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing local beef being served in a local school. Our cattle are farmed with care just 15 miles from the school, giving complete traceability and allowing the children to know exactly where their food comes from.
We firmly believe that more locally sourced produce should be making its way onto school menus. Not only does it support local farmers and businesses, but it also helps children develop a greater understanding of food production, sustainability, and the journey from farm to fork. 🇬🇧
In a few weeks, I’ll be visiting the school to talk to the children about the beef we produce, the work that goes into farming & caring for our animals, and why it’s so important to understand where our food comes from.
A huge thank you to RHA for supporting local farming 💛
