IT'S CHRISTMAS TIME!!!!

New update for the Mini Midas Project!!​

After a lot of body filler and sanding the Midas has finally had two coats of white paint applied! ​

It is starting to come together and looking very shiny!​

It is the run up to the Christmas Holidays!!​

The students have been busy with Christmas Crafts and creating signs/plaques for pets!!

Well its moved forward and changed colour, the whole of the car shell as well as doors and bumpers were sprayed. Since the start of the new half term a student has been doing the final stages of preparation, they have been filling any imperfections and then wet and dry sanding ready for painting. ​

Over the past four weeks a lot of progress has been made on the Mini Midas. ​

Body filler has been used for any necessary repairs to the shell. ​

It was then thoroughly sanded down in preparation for painting. ​

None of us here at Wheels are professional body repair specialists however we are giving the students a chance to try something new and different away from the Motor Vehicle qualification.

After moving to a new building in April 2024 a lot of changes needed to be made to ensure it was suitable for the students. New rooms were created, walls were put up and a lot of painting was done. We even had previous students of Wheels come to lend us a hand with moving and supporting the transition from the previous building to create our new environment based on their previous experiences with us. It took a while to get it the way we wanted and needed to suit the students and what we offer but we got there!!

During the first week of doing the Mini Midas project we were able to make a lot of noise by getting the engine running! It was so exciting to find out that the engine runs!!

We got the Midas onto the ramp to do a full inspection of the car to determine what damage was present on the shell. We then started the process of taking it back to the shell by removing all parts. The front and rear axles were taken off ready to be prepared for repainting.

The main project for the year has arrived!! On the first week of the school year we had this 1985 Mini Midas arrive, but it was not just the car! Several boxes of loose parts were all inside!

The students then emptied the car of all the parts, jet washed the body and replaced the damaged wheel and tyre. They then replaced the damaged wheel and tyre to enable the car to be moved easily.

We also made some noise by getting the engine running!!

It is the beginning of a new academic year! We are back into the full swing of things!
We have some very exciting projects for the students to take part in that will be revealed over the course of this half term.
