As the song of a bird expresses its nature, what is our society’s song right now and is our ‘culture’ really expressing the song that is our hearts?
I think most people feel estranged, disenchanted, and separate and this is causing great suffering -psychologically and our physical health can then sadly express that dis-ease.
Using Art as a vehicle in teaching I find myself trying to create a space for direct experience, which feels like a catalyst for direct conversation. The dialogues springing up reveal mostly nobility and a desire for co-operation and kindness in the human being. A special kind of connection occurs within the group - which may be described better as ‘communion’ a place where words fall away.
I am interested in our relationship to material, how we have always expressed ideas and beliefs through carving, painting, pattern, forming, music, dance... I return to cave art, Minoan art from Crete and ancient cultures that may have practised nature worship and recognised a divine feminine aspect
Creativity is inherent in human nature. What is the urge to express...are we trying to understand our experience of existence... ? I am enjoying the directness of ice age art, animal depictions on cave walls, clay figurines, votive offerings.
