📢 Important update for East Riding families: Could your child get free school meals?
Hundreds of schoolchildren in our area could be missing out on free school meals simply because they don't realise they are now eligible.
The income threshold has been expanded to include all households receiving Universal Credit. This change could save families up to £495 per child every year, yet research suggests over half of eligible parents are currently unaware they qualify.
Liberal Democrat spokesperson Cllr Margot Sutton is calling for better communication to ensure no child misses out: "With so many local families feeling the pinch, saving nearly £500 a year per child could make a world of difference. No child in our region should go without a hot, nutritious meal at school."
