🏆 Bridgwater College student crowned World Champion! 🏆
We’re incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Edward Watts, Level 3 Sport and Exercise Science student at Bridgwater College, who has been crowned World Champion in his weight class at the recent ABPU World Championships.
Edward delivered an exceptional performance, particularly considering he competed at the national championships just eight weeks ago. Since then, he has increased his total lift by an incredible 20kg, demonstrating the dedication, discipline and determination behind his rapid progression.
Edward’s championship-winning lifts were:
🏋️ Squat – 265kg | AWPC World Record
💪 Bench Press – 145kg | AWPC World Record
🏋️ Deadlift – 255kg
🔥 Total – 665kg | AWPC World Record
His 265kg squat is also recognised as the highest weight ever lifted in the UK for his age and weight category across all powerlifting federations.
To achieve multiple world records and become World Champion in his first year of competitive powerlifting is a phenomenal accomplishment.
Edward’s success is a brilliant example of what can be achieved through hard work, commitment and a drive to keep improving. Everyone at Bridgwater College is incredibly proud of Edward and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next. 👏
Congratulations, Edward! What an achievement! 🏆
