Following on from yesterday’s post… apparently I’ve opened a can of worms 😂

Here’s another one we hear:

“He’s decided he wants to stop coming to Krav.”

He’s seven. 😂

Last week he wanted to be Spider-Man.

Yesterday his entire world fell apart because his toast was cut the wrong way.

This morning he announced he’s never eating bananas again.

But this evening he’s apparently made a carefully considered decision about his long-term training. 😂

So we ask…

“What’s made him want to stop?”

“Well… his friend doesn’t go anymore.”

Ah.

There it is. 😂

And this is where, as parents, we sometimes have to look at the bigger picture.

Your child might have started training because they were shy.

Because they lacked confidence.

Because they gave up too easily.

Because they struggled to concentrate.

Or simply because you wanted them to become a little more confident, capable and resilient.

Those things take time.

And sometimes the biggest lesson isn’t learning how to defend themselves.

It’s learning:

“I don’t quit something just because I’m tired, my mate stopped going, or I’d rather be on the Xbox tonight.”

Of course, if a child is genuinely unhappy, we should listen to them.

But there’s a big difference between “I really don’t enjoy this anymore” and “I can’t be bothered today.”

Kids will have off days.

They’ll get frustrated.

They’ll find some lessons harder than others.

They might even get corrected by an instructor for messing around... outrageous, I know. 😂

But working through those little moments is often where confidence and resilience actually come from.

Sometimes parenting is listening carefully to what your child is telling you.

And sometimes parenting is saying:

“I hear you. Now grab your water bottle, we’re going to Krav.” 😂

Because seven year olds are brilliant at being seven year olds.

They probably shouldn’t be solely responsible for their long-term personal development just yet. 😉

Parents… sometimes the thing your child says they don’t want to try is exactly the thing that could help them grow. 😅

“My child is shy.”

“They lack confidence.”

“They don’t always listen.”

“They give up when something feels difficult.”

That’s not a reason to avoid training.

𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁.

Our Junior Krav Maga classes aren’t about turning children into fighters.

They’re about helping them become more confident, resilient and capable young people.

They learn to:

🥋 Speak up and believe in themselves
💪 Keep going when something feels difficult
👂 Listen, focus and follow instructions
🧠 Stay calm and make better decisions
🤝 Train alongside others in a friendly, supportive environment
🛡️ Develop practical skills that can help them feel safer

And yes… your child might say “I don’t want to go” before they’ve even tried it.

They probably said the same thing about broccoli. 😂

You’re still the parent.

Give them the opportunity to discover what they’re capable of.

Book the first class. Let them experience it. Then make the decision together. 🥋

💬 Wondering if self-defence is legal in the UK?

It is, but only when you use reasonable force.

The law lets you protect yourself, but carrying weapons like pepper spray or knives is a no-go.

Your best protection? Your own awareness, instincts, and body.

That’s why Krav Maga focuses on practical, no-nonsense skills no tools, just what works for real-life situations, no matter your age or fitness.

Curious about self-defence or UK law?
