A little reminder that the Shoebox Theatre Competition closes on 27th September!

There’s still plenty of time to set your students their first technical theatre challenge of the new school year. It’s a brilliant way to get them thinking creatively about set, props, lighting, sound and storytelling... all within the challenge of a shoebox!

Set the challenge, let their creativity take over, and see what they can build!

There’s no single recipe for the perfect drama lesson... and that’s what makes teaching drama so interesting!

For us, a brilliant lesson is one where students are actively thinking, creating, making choices and taking creative risks. It’s a lesson with purpose, but also enough space for students to explore, experiment and surprise us.

And sometimes the most powerful moments happen when the teacher takes a step back and lets the students take the lead. šŸ’œšŸ©·

While the classrooms might be quiet for the summer, the ideas definitely aren’t! šŸ’”

We’re using the summer months to get creative, experiment with new ideas and develop fresh drama resources designed with real classrooms and real teachers in mind.

There’s plenty of scribbling, planning, testing, tweaking happening behind the scenes!

We can’t wait to share what we’ve been working on with you! šŸ©·šŸ’š

What would YOU love to see us create next? šŸ‘‡

Drama is so much more than standing in the spotlight.

When students take part in drama, they’re developing a whole range of skills that reach far beyond performance.

They learn to direct, making creative decisions and leading others.
They learn to design, turning ideas into characters, settings and worlds.
They learn to collaborate, listening, communicating and creating as a team.
And they learn to think creatively, solve problems and approach challenges from different perspectives. šŸ’”

Not every student needs to be the one performing centre stage to thrive in drama.

Sometimes, their greatest contribution happens behind the scenes — and every role matters. ā¤ļø

Very excited to share this brilliant article which has been written by one of our collaborators, Georgie Ross for TES Magazine!

Georgie ran a Masterplan Webinar in the Summer all about this topic and how drama education will be essential in the new era of AI.

My suggestion is to share this directly with SLT at the start of September as the perfect advocacy tool.

The national focus on oracy to help prepare young people for the future world of work presents a huge opportunity to rethink the role of drama in our schools, says this educator
