A great few days with Jane, getting stuck into the foundations of coiling, building confidence and learning the work with clay.

We’re looking for talented local makers and small businesses to join us at The Ceramic Studio Christmas Makers’ Market on Sunday 29th November! ✨

Set in our beautiful countryside studio in Brenchley, it’s a lovely opportunity to showcase your work, meet new customers and be part of a festive day filled with independent makers, live music and Christmas cheer.

We’re particularly looking for non-ceramic stalls, including:
🎨 Original art and illustration
🧵 Textiles, accessories and handmade gifts
🌿 Homeware and decorations
🍯 Artisan food and other unique handmade products

Ready to get colourful with clay?

We’re so excited to announce a brand new 8-week Nerikomi course, starting at our studio in January 2027!

Nerikomi is one of ceramics most satisfying techniques, where colour and pattern are built into the clay itself rather than painted on. Over eight weeks, you’ll learn how to combine coloured clays, starting with simple marbling and gradually developing more intricate patterns and designs.

Some of the most striking Nerikomi patterns take time to plan, build and reveal - and that’s exactly what this course gives you. Time to experiment, develop your ideas and create a small collection of pieces designed from the inside out.

Perfect for beginners, with plenty of room for more experienced makers to push the technique further.

Guess who’s been busy creating a herd of adorable elephants? 🐘

Just look at these amazing ceramic animals made by our younger kids! & They’ve done a fantastic job bringing their little elephants to life. 👏

It’s wonderful to see them exploring clay, developing their creativity and learning new skills from such a young age. These hands-on experiences help build confidence and allow them to learn through play and exploration.

How lovely that they get to take their beautiful creations home and treasure them!

Well done, little artists! We can’t wait to see what you create next! ☺️

How do you turn a freshly thrown porcelain vessel into something full of character?✨

Across three days, students explored the journey from throwing beautiful porcelain vessels to transforming them with colour and mark.

From stem vases and bowls thrown on the wheel, to trimming and then decorating with Ali’s beautiful mark-making techniques, each piece became a canvas for experimentation.

A big part of the workshop was about embracing the idea of play experimenting with marks, colour and pattern. It was wonderful to see everyone explore this freedom, creating pieces that were completely individual and full of character.

Huge thanks to Ali for an incredible workshop and for sharing your knowledge, creativity and approach to mark-making with us.
