A throwback to last week when Daryl did a three-session day, all of string instruments, for Audiomachine.

He's glad these long days don't come around too often!

Fortunately, our maestro knows how to conduct efficiently: minimising movement whilst still conveying what the orchestral session musicians need to know, so he's not too sore.

💡Daryl shares some of these tips on our conducting masterclass. (Sold out again for this year. Apply for 2027 via link in bio)

🎥 In fact, in the reel accompanying this post Ábel Tompa, a previous attendee, explains the impact Daryl's body mechanics advice has had on his work.

What iconic film music cue(s) will CFF 2026 students be conducting in front of a 28-piece orchestra two months from now as they put into practice the skills they’ve learned during this October’s sold-out course in Budapest?

🤪 We have no idea, and neither does Daryl, as he hasn’t decided yet!

Our conducting masterclass Maestro is mulling through a few options today before he sits down to create a reduced orchestration of the cue(s) to suit the musicians he’s booking from the Budapest Film Orchestra.

While using movie music cues to teach students how to get a better result musically and financially out of studio recording sessions −where time literally is money and efficiency is vital− the skills learned apply to other types of orchestral recording sessions too such as for games, television and advertising.

Thomas‘ film music orchestration credits include Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, The Union and M3gan. On the game music front, he orchestrated Dune: Awakening.

He attended 2024’s Unlocking the Secrets of Session Recordings course in Budapest and we know he’s used what he’s learned on projects he’s done since then:

🤩 For example, he conducted music he orchestrated for Netflix a few months after the course, before going on to do the same for a variety of TV series including Lottie & Totte (Danish) and A Sámi Wedding (Norwegian).

In addition to the sheer volume of podium time, which he described in an earlier testimonial, he credits the conducting course materials for giving him the confidence to put his improved conducting skills to the test!

🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

2026’s course is sold out but we strongly recommend you APPLY NOW for 2027. You don’t need to pay anything to secure your spot until after we announce the dates, typically in March or April.

We already have a waitlist for 2027 BUT it’s still worth applying. Why?

Typically, once we announce the dates, some of the accepted applicants can no longer come.

We then open up the newly available spots to people on a first-come, first-served basis.

✅ The higher you are on the waitlist the greater your chance of getting onto the course. In fact, 80% of the people on this year’s conducting masterclass made it on after a stint on the waitlist.

Why is the course so popular? This is a rare opportunity for media composers, film composers, TV composers, game music composers, arrangers, orchestrators and music producers to:

🎻 Conduct 28 members of the renowned Budapest Film Orchestra

🤩 Receive virtually 1-2-1 tuition from one of the world’s top session conductors!

Before conducting movie cues with 28 musicians from the Budapest Film Orchestra composers, orchestrators, arrangers, conductors and music producers on Conducting for Film’s build up their skills by directing 2 pianists.

Some of these skills include:

✅ Tackling irregular time signatures

✅ Enhancing the musicality by using their non-dominant hand to introduce greater expressiveness and punctuation when conducting.

Students cycle so frequently on and off the podium to practise their new conducting techniques on the pianists, before the final day’s extended stints in front of the orchestra, we regularly get feedback like this about this part of the conducting course:

🗣️ “No time to get bored.”

🗣️ “You conduct so frequently you feel a lot less nervous about it!”

🗣️ “Each day was hard and built on what you’d previously learned, but I never felt out of my depth as the progression was well thought through.”

Hope you enjoy looking at a few examples from previous students on this conducting masterclass!

If you’d like to try this for yourself, learn more and apply today for our 1-4 October 2026 event via the link in our bio.

However, I wouldn’t wait long. We suspect the 2 spots which unexpectedly opened up on the previously sold-out course will be gone soon.

However, if you do miss out on our 2026 event, you’ll get placed on our waitlist for this year (in case of further drop-outs) and position yourself well for a spot for 2027!

Have a look at Vince Godfrey, a student from CFF 2025, doing a session in Budapest for CFF’s maestro and composer, Daryl Griffith!

Obviously, Daryl could’ve conducted these orchestral sessions himself, but he decided to hire Vince instead.

Why?

🤩 Because Daryl is keen to support the next generation of conductors, composers, orchestrators and music producers for film, music, tv, game and ballet music.

That’s the whole reason he set up .

🤩 To give something back to an industry that has been so good to him.

Daryl hadn’t met Vince before his attendance on last October’s course, but Daryl was so impressed by Vince’s commitment to conducting as a profession that he wanted to help further nurture Vince’s talent.

Not just by giving him session work, but also by coaching him during the sessions to sharpen up his skills even further.

Daryl also has Vince earmarked to do a few other projects later this year.

🤩 Mentorship from Daryl is a benefit that many students can expect to enjoy if they sign up for his course. In fact, he’s had several post-course zooms and in-person meetings with CFF alumnae to discuss issues they face.

Such support is not guaranteed, of course. But, if Daryl’s schedule allows, or he has a project he thinks might be suitable for someone’s skills, he will try to be as supportive as he can after the course.

If you’d like access to this ongoing learning experience, the first step is to do his course! And, you’re in luck, TWO spots have opened up on this normally sold-old opportunity to:

🧐 Learn from one of Europe's top session conductors!

💡 Get insights from a seasoned composer, arranger and orchestrator who’s worked on a variety of film projects including Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Wonka and The Acolyte.

🎻 Conduct 28 musicians from the renowned Budapest Film Orchestra!

Now based in LA, Chris is a British composer and music producer whose work spans countless high-profile movie trailers and TV shows. Examples include Joker: Folie à Deux, Wicked and Squid Game.

Working with orchestras at Abbey Road Studios (London), Synchron (Vienna), LA and Budapest, he combines unique synth and sound design elements and traditional orchestral writing with modern production values.

Hear him describe how the course opened his 👀 to a lot more about conducting than he knew before, helping him to get more out of his orchestral sessions!

Did you know that our Maestro's music was used in a Star Wars trailer, and that Daryl, with his team, orchestrated The Acolyte for Michael Abels?

Happy Star Wars Day everyone!

Hope you enjoy this flashback to a visit Daryl and two of his employees made to Disneyland during a break from work meetings in Los Angeles in February last year.

Despite the pouring rain they still managed to have great time.

Daryl also said that Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge exceeded his expectations, which is saying something considering his amusement park standards are sky high!

So, if you haven't yet been, do check it out.
