Floodmobile is coming to Angus – 18 to 21 March 2024

Residents, community groups and businesses in Angus are invited to drop in to Floodmobile Roadshow events between Monday 18 and Thursday 21 March in Forfar, Brechin, Birkhill and Carnoustie.

The roadshow organised by Angus Council will see partners from Flood Mary, the Scottish Flood Forum, Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks and the fire service come together to give support and advice on flood recovery, insurance and showcase flood protection tips, ideas and equipment.

📅 Birkhill – Wednesday 20 March, 12-7pm, Birkhill Millennium Hall
📅 Carnoustie – Thursday 21 March, 10-4pm, Madisons Café, Links Parade

The events are free to attend and no appointments needed.

The events are supported by Angus Rural Partnership with funding from the Scottish Government’s Rural Community-Led Local Development Fund 2023/24.

Our housing team has been contacting tenants whose homes have been affected by flooding in Brechin.

This is in advance of gaining access to properties to begin the process of assessing the damage caused.

Despite repeated efforts to contact tenants over the weekend and again today, it has not been possible to reach them all so far. This could be due to landlines within evacuated properties being the only available number, or tenants’ contact details not being up to date.

We want to hear from you if you haven’t already had contact from us. You can get in touch via the ACCESSLine on 03452 777 778.

We have gained entry to a number of Council-owned properties today as part of works to restore energy supplies. These properties have been left secured on completion of work.

In normal circumstances, our team will provide 24-hour’s notice before gaining access. But where we cannot make contact with tenants, this will not be the case. The immediate priority now is to assess the damage caused by Storm Babet.

A team will be onsite tomorrow to access properties. If you are a housing tenant in the flood-affected area in Brechin and want to be at your address when we gain access, please call our ACCESSLine on 03452 777 778.

For anyone affected by , we have set up a drop-in information centre at the Crickety Community Centre in Brechin.

You’ll be able to pop in, have a hot drink, and ask any questions you may have from Tuesday – Friday, 9am – 5pm each day this week (24-27 October).

For those residents affected by the current flooding The Crickety , this Friday 27th , will be providing around £8000 of its own money for items that you need. ( not the funds you are currently donating )

We don’t really know what people need .
We know everyone is in different situations and needs different things so we are simply saying come along get free soup , cake and hot drinks whilst we let you order some of the things you may need going forward.

We realise many are affected and It’s not a lot but at the moment it’s the best we can do. We would encourage others if you can to dig deep and help . So if any business far and wide want to help just get in touch !

River Street, Brechin (entirety)

A935 (St Annes - towards A90 at dip)

B966 (at various intervals – access still available to Edzell)

East Mill Road, Brechin (entirety)

B9128, between Craichie & Hillend

C12, between Fowlis Village Hall and junction with the A923 Coupar Angus to Dundee

Craig O’Loch Road, Forfar (at Fiskens)

A90 Emmock Road Tealing - Traffic Scotland state that the A90 is currently closed to northbound traffic at Struan roundabout (updates here https://www.traffic.gov.scot)

Due to the severe weather conditions, it is possible that roads will be closed quickly with little warning. Please do not ignore Road Closed signs. Signs will be removed when a road can be safely re-opened.

People must also understand that many roads will be flooded and not marked as closed. Do NOT attempt to drive through flooded roads. We are also expecting more fallen trees to create further hazards.

Current Police Scotland advice is not to travel unless essential. The fewer vehicles on the road, the safer everyone will be and the better access for emergency services.

If you believe that you are at risk of flooding and wish to be evacuated, please call our ACCESSLine number 03452 777 778 for rescue. Lines are open until 22:00. If danger is imminent, please call 999.

SMALLWORLD NURSERY- BANK STREET, BRECHIN
We are opening the Nursery from 11:30am-2pm today for any families needing shelter, lunch or a cuppy. There will be toys out for the children, sausage rolls and sandwiches and hot drinks. We have bouncy chairs, high chairs and changing facilities.
For anyone wanting to hand in anything for children affected- nappies, wipes or baby food, then we will be there to accept it and will ensure we pass it up to the Campus to get to the right people. Alternatively, if you require any of these items then please pop in and we can help or give us a phone on 01356 623362 and we will deliver.
