Branscombe C of E Primary School and Preschool

Branscombe C of E Primary School and Preschool Branscombe C of E School is a small village school set in the wonderful Devon countryside. It is set in wonderful countryside, close to the sea.

Branscombe C of E School is a small village school catering for the needs of children between the ages of four and eleven. The immediate environment is in itself a rich resource for learning. The original school building dates from 1878 and has been thoughtfully maintained and developed over the years. We have two classes with access to three very well equipped classrooms. A gallery area has recently been transformed into a well stocked library. The Foundation/KS1 classroom has a conservatory for role play and practical activities and their own secure early years play area. Our school is a welcoming and happy place where children can learn in a secure and stimulating environment. Our values are based upon a Christian ethos focusing on trust, respect and openness. We set high standards for teaching and learning and we seek to help children to develop lively and enquiring minds. We want them to be able to make reasoned judgements and to apply themselves to the acquisition of knowledge and skills relevant to life in a rapidly changing world. We encourage our children to develop an understanding of this world through the experience of a broad and balanced curriculum. We try to show a caring attitude in everything we do and hope to instill in children sound spiritual and moral values with respect and tolerance for all. We have strong links with our Parish church and make a major contribution to three services during the year.

As part of our school's service to the community and care for the environment, the children took part in a beach clean today. They worked hard collecting rubbish and helping to protect our beautiful coastline. After a busy morning, they enjoyed a well-deserved ice cream. We are very proud of their efforts! 🌊♻️🍦

On Friday, the children enjoyed learning all about water safety during a visit from Guy from the Sidmouth Lifeboat. 🚤🌊
They discovered important ways to stay safe around water, what to do in an emergency, and learned more about the vital work carried out by the lifeboat crew. The children were engaged throughout and asked some fantastic questions.
A big thank you to Guy for taking the time to visit us and share such valuable knowledge with the children! 😊

Yesterday the children visited the Beer Quarry Caves — a fascinating underground labyrinth in Devon that dates back nearly 2,000 years. The children loved exploring the huge caverns and learning about the quarrymen who worked there by candlelight deep beneath the ground!

In DT, the children have been busy bringing their ideas to life! 🌱🏗️ After working on their designs, they have now designed and built their very own greenhouses.
They used a range of different materials and construction methods to create their final designs, carefully thinking about how to make their structures strong and stable. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity, teamwork and problem-solving skills in action!
We are so proud of their hard work and fantastic finished products. 🌟

A lovely afternoon at the end of last term was spent out on the cricket field, where we developed our skills with the help of a professional coach. With the sun shining and a clear blue sky overhead, it was the perfect setting. We rounded off the day with a delightful Easter egg hunt in our woodland area, bringing a joyful end to the term. ☀️🏏

Children kicked off April Fools’ Day in style this morning—reporting not one, but two “serious leaks” in the children’s toilets. Staff sprang into action, only to discover the culprits were considerably smaller (and much cheekier) than expected! 😄

We were delighted to welcome some of our families to St Winifred’s Church today for our special Easter Service, led by Father Steven.

Together, we shared the story of Holy Week, sang beautifully, and reflected through the thoughtful prayers written by our children. It was a truly meaningful and joyful time for everyone involved. ✨

Thank you to all who joined us and helped make the service so special. 💛
