πŸ”οΈ Could you support Ian on his Blencathra challenge?

On Saturday 22 August, Ian Spriggs will be taking on his Everest/Blencathra Challenge in aid of the NSPKU, aiming to complete 14 climbs of Blencathra from Threlkeld.

Ian would love people from across the school and wider Trust community to join him for a lap or two during the challenge.

The challenge starts at 8am and could take 24 hours or more, so support throughout the day, evening and especially overnight would be hugely appreciated.

This will not be a pure running challenge. Ian describes it as walking up, with a bit of running and walking or trotting back down, so anyone who feels able to get up and down Blencathra is welcome to get involved.

Please also support Ian’s fundraising for the NSPKU here:

A huge challenge for a brilliant cause. Good luck Ian! πŸ‘

Happy retirement Mrs Loth Hill!

πŸ“šAfter an incredible 41 years of service, our School Librarian Joanna Loth Hill is retiring this summer. For decades, Mrs Loth Hill has fostered a love of reading and learning, creating a welcoming environment that has supported and inspired thousands of young people.

She has enriched school life through initiatives including the Scholastic Book Fair, Bookbuzz and the Spellbinding Reading Challenge, as well as providing the engaging stories used in the whole-school book relays on World Book Day.

When Mrs Loth Hill joined William Howard School, the school operated across two sites, and she had the key role in developing libraries in both locations. Over the years, she has overseen significant developments that have made reading more accessible, including online library services, eBooks and audiobooks through our eLibrary platform.

One of the aspects of her role she will miss most is working with the eager Student Librarians, whose support helps the library run smoothly each day.

πŸ’¬Student Librarian Thomas Mutter said: β€œMrs Loth Hill has always made the library feel like a very welcoming place for everyone. In the two years I have been a Student Librarian, she has always been there to help me, from when I was still learning the ropes, to helping students find a book. I have enjoyed every break time I spend in the library with her. A massive thank you from me!”

Mrs Loth Hill certainly leaves a lasting legacy. We thank her for her exceptional contribution and wish her a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.
