As a new school year kicks off, September is the best time to book to get your students outdoors.
Our onsite bushcraft and teambuilding days are often the best day of the year.
Because we can run it on the school site, there are no pastoral logistics, transport costs, or long RAs— one day to shift how a group works together, think about themselves, and show up for one other.
Here’s why now is the time to book, and what one day with Wilderness can do for your students:
🍁Students respond brilliantly to short, high-intensity challenges. Save the cost and time of a week away and still get outdoors — we deliver huge impact quickly.
🍁For Year 7, a day together early in the year is great to bond the group.
🍁Staff can fit it into their timetable without needing cover.

Autumn is a great time to get outdoors:
* Cooler temperatures make yoga, climbing, navigation, cooking on open fires, or problem-solving games more comfortable than the height of summer
* Changing scenery — autumn colours adds novelty that students will remember

🍁Here’s a typical shape of the day:
* Arrival & briefing
* Activities— Every day is tailored  around what your goals.
* Debrief — time to reflect on teamwork, communication, and resilience.

🍁 An on site day isn’t just a nice break— it’s justified against Ofsted. Since November 2025, schools are graded across several evaluation areas, and a Wilderness onsite day speaks directly to them:
* Personal development & wellbeing: outdoor learning creates evidence of: resilience, confidence in new situations, and a break from screens and exam pressure.
* Inclusion: An onsite day gives every student a chance to contribute and succeed outside the classroom.
* Oracy & communication:Tasks and debriefs encourage students to articulate ideas and problem-solve out loud, together.
* Character Curriculum: teamwork, communication and resilience map directly onto core character objectives

🍁A day onsite is brilliant evidence of wider personal development provision.
* Flexible group sizes
* Full risk assessments
* Fast lead times
* Cost effective
Autumn availability is limited, and dates go quickly so get in touch now

Different day, different location. Karen is in Wales today exploring a brand new site we are using in June for our school residential programme. The early start was worth it when you get to see the lovely Welsh hills ⛰️

Today was a little different from the usual at Wilderness Expertise… Programme Manager, Karen, had the privilege of attending Buckingham Palace for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award celebrations.

Swapping wet tents, muddy boots and waterproofs for a dress and palace gardens was definitely a change of pace — although we’re not sure she’ll give up expedition life just yet!

The Gold DofE Award is a huge achievement. It represents months — often years — of commitment, resilience, teamwork and determination. Participants push themselves outside their comfort zones through volunteering, physical challenges, skill development and expeditions, all while balancing school, work and everyday life.

That’s exactly why offering DofE at Wilderness Expertise matters so much to us. We see firsthand how these experiences help young people grow in confidence, independence and self-belief.

The journey to Gold isn’t always easy, but that’s what makes the achievement so meaningful. Seeing young people celebrated at Buckingham Palace is a reminder of the lasting impact adventure, challenge and perseverance can have.

Huge congratulations to everyone receiving their Gold Award today — what an achievement to be proud of.

Big news from the Wilderness team! 🎉🏡

We’ve officially moved into our new home in Grazeley, and we are so excited to have a space that gives us more room to collaborate, create, and keep building unforgettable experiences for our community.

We’re just about settled in now, and can’t wait to welcome clients and friends in for the grand tour and a cup of coffee! Until then, here’s a first look at what we’ve been up to…

Last Thursday, we gathered for a well-deserved celebration dinner ahead of Friday’s Wilderness Expertise Trainer Conference.

It was a fantastic evening filled with great food, laughter, and conversation; the perfect opportunity to pause, relax, and connect with our wider freelance team before diving into a full day of learning and development.

Taking time to come together like this reminds us how important it is to celebrate our shared achievements and the people who make our work possible. The energy, ideas, and friendships built around the table carried straight into the conference the next day — helping us all return inspired, recharged, and ready to be better than ever.

Here’s to more moments like this — where we strengthen our community, share experiences, and continue to grow together.

Our Commitment to Safeguarding:
At Wilderness Expertise, every young person’s wellbeing comes first. We have a duty of care to keep everyone involved in our programmes safe from harm — and we take that responsibility seriously.
We’re proud to be one of the UK’s most committed and forward-thinking outdoor providers when it comes to safeguarding. Because when young people feel safe and supported, they can truly thrive in the wild.

How We Bring Safeguarding to Life?
Safeguarding isn’t a tick-box for us — it’s part of who we are. Every year, we run a company-wide safeguarding update for our team, and we now offer a free Level 1 Safeguarding qualification to everyone who works with us.

Our Trainers complete a safeguarding qualification every three years — going above and beyond industry standards. We also have a Designated Safeguarding Lead on our permanent staff, dedicated to keeping our policies up to date and offering expert support whenever it’s needed.
And because wellbeing looks different for everyone, we work with mental-health-trained freelancers, carefully matched to events where participants may need a little extra support.
