Ep 3: Status Epileticus Dr. Home says: when a seizure doesn’t stop — the clock is your enemy. ⏳ Status Epilepticus = a seizure lasting >5 minutes, or multiple seizures without full recovery between them. The longer it lasts, the higher the risk of neuronal injury, hypoxia, and death. Causes? • Missed meds • CNS infections • Stroke • Metabolic imbalances • Alcohol withdrawal Management (TIME = BRAIN): 1️⃣ Benzos first (Lorazepam or Diazepam) 2️⃣ If no response → IV antiepileptics (Phenytoin, Levetiracetam) 3️⃣ If still refractory → ICU + sedation + intubation Key point: after 5 minutes, treat it as an emergency — don’t wait.
